Adding categories obscure now with new format…

I’ve just posted up a review at this site and I couldn’t create sub-categories for it to appear in due to your new interface. A few days ago I clicked on the link for the new interface but thought I had successfully reverted back to the “Classic” interface, which allowed me to add categories and tags to posts whilst I was still in the process of writing them.

The new interface allows you to add categories but that did not work this time.

I’d appreciated information on how to either revert my interface back to “Classic” or how to get the new post appear in the drop-down menu of my home page, which my current post doesn’t do.

Will I have to resubmit my post in order to do what I want (now that I have added sub-categories after I posted my blog)?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. To edit your existing post to fix the categories, go to Posts ->All Posts in the WP-Admin dashboard (http://dfle3.wordpress.com/wp-admin/). If categories is the only thing you want to update, you can do so via the Quick Edit link.

And you can find all the various workarounds for using the classic editor instead at this link: http://git.io/wpcom-restore-classic-ed

I can see that maybe I should have added more information in my post.

One other thing that I didn’t mention and which bugs me is that my home page here has menus and that my last post didn’t appear as a sub-menu on that. Trying to rectify that now…via that WP Admin suggestion (thanks)….seems I found the right area to work on that > “Appearance”. I’ll tinker with that for a bit and see if my latest post will appear in a new sub-menu that I want to add.

If I started posting a lot here just wondering how convoluted my menu/sub-menu system is going to look!

P.S. Wondering if it’s also possible to edit replies to your own posts…as I did with my last post…hoping that I can add to that reply as I think of more things to add.

    Thanks.

I see you already have category pages set up. If you publish new posts in any of those categories, the posts will automatically appear on those pages. However, the posts will NOT appear in the menu. If you want posts themselves to appear in the menu you have to add them manually every time via Appearance ->Menus. BTW, here’s a very good tutorial on custom menus you can read in addition to the official support document: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

I would strongly advise against listing every individual post in the menu. It will make your menu needlessly complex, and it’s not what the menu was made for. If you want an index of all your posts, rather create a static page for that purpose and use the Archive or Display Posts shortcode, or manually insert new posts as you create them.

You can edit any comment made on your blog, your own as well as your visitors’. There are two ways to do this: When viewing your own blog (while logged in) you should see an edit link next to each comment. Click that. Or you can go to the WP-Admin dashboard and click on Comments in the sidebar.

Keep in mind that if you edit an existing comment, the person you’re replying to won’t get a new notification, so they might never see what you added. Rather just reply to their original comment a second time to add what you wanted to say. That way they’ll get a notification and be able to respond to your additional comments.
