adding content to web pages

    I’ve been trying to add new publishing information to my web page;
    I’m not comfortable with the new Block program, don’t particularly like it but seem to be forced to use it;
    Is there a way to get text and photo in same block?
    If not, is it possible to get two blocks with text to left and photo to right, horizontal to each other?
    If not, the whole aesthetic is ruined, relative to the material already published.

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

    Yes indeed, try the Media & Text block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/media-text-block/

    If not, is it possible to get two blocks with text to left and photo to right, horizontal to each other?

    Alternatively, try a Columns block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/columns-block/

    Okay, thanks. That was helpful to a point, but I still can’t do quite what I want.

    What I want is the image of my book cover top right, text on the left — so far, so good – but then when the text reaches bottom of image, I want the text to go further to the right, to spread out and enwrap the image.

    So I tried to create a new block and choose the wider format, but couldn’t seem to manage that; so when I erased the new block, I lost all the content. I suppose that somehow I’m going to have to navigate between the two column and 100% wide column. How do I do that?

    This whole process was so much easier with the old Classic system. All I had to do was paste in the whole text, then place the cursor at top left and place the image on the right. Is there a way that I can just go back to that? I really find the block system cumbersome. It’s frustrating for an old guy who’s not a tech person: every time there’s an “improvement,” it is so hard to adjust to. Nothing is obvious, I can’t work it out on my own. This is the worst improvement ever.

    But enough complaints. Appreciate your help, either to solve the problem using block system or reverting to the Classic system.

  • Hi there,

    Even though the image block and paragraph blocks are separate, the image block does contain settings that allow you to align it to the right or left. If you chose this option then you will see that the text from nearby paragraph blocks will ‘wrap’ the image just as you describe.

    This is difficult to explain in words, so I recorded a quick video to show you how to have the image on the right or left, with text wrapping around it.

    You can view the at this link: https://d.pr/v/S9vfLR

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks. This worked when I went back to the web page you worked from, which is my blog. But it’s not working any way I try it when I go to my publications page where I’m trying to put it.

    I don’t know whether to put down the text first and then the image, or how to keep them in the same block to get the wrap-around effect, I’m getting really frustrated because it seems that any slight variation of context requires a whole different solution.

    Help!

  • I usually align my images right myself, so I do an image block first, paragraph block for the text second, then I go back to the image and align it right, just like my colleague did at https://d.pr/v/S9vfLR

    Would you please fill out the page in question with the content desired at least, and if that’s not working, let us know the URL of the page and what else you need?

    That way we can take a detailed look specifically at what’s going wrong and fix it.

    Thanks. This time it worked. You’ve been very helpful, and I really appreciate it.
