Adding CSS to the homepage

  • Unknown's avatar

    I apologize for being such a newbie with WordPress. I hope I can explain this properly. I appreciate any help that you might suggest.
    I am using the three part homepage. The bottom part of the homepage has three columns which I would like to replace with one column. I was messaging on the WordPress messaging service last night (I’m in Hong Kong) and the staff Ali suggested I use the following CSS code:

    .featured-wrap.column-3 .featured-post {
    width: 97%;
    }

    So I went to Appearance, customize, additional CSS and this is where I added this code.
    The only button on the page was ‘publish’ which I clicked. There was no save or preview button. The Publish button went dark and didn’t lighten up until I added px for the width and pressed ‘replace the current theme css” (or s’thing similar).
    A wide horizontal band of green appeared at the top of my page and nothing changed in the bottom part of the page. I removed the code because my site is live.
    Can you suggest anything else to try?
    I really appreciate any help you can give me.
    Ellen

    Hi there,

    hypnosisinhongkong.com is a wordpress.ORG software install on paid hosting, hosted by GoDaddy.com
    Name Servers:
    ns68.domaincontrol.com
    ns67.domaincontrol.com

    Unfortunately, you are posting to the wrong support forum. This is WordPress.COM support where we provide support only for sites on our servers. You will need to contact your web host for hosting issues and to post to https://wordpress.org/support/ for support.

    WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    The wordpress.ORG support forum is at http://wordpress.org/support.
    The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/
    If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/
    WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
    See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.

    Publish is the correct button to press, and after it saves the CSS, the button will grey out as it sounds like it has.

    When using Additional CSS, it is best to not select the “replace the current theme css” unless you plan on completely rewriting the entire CSS for the theme. With that unchecked, your additional CSS will be applied and overwrite the existing CSS.

    I would suggest contacting the theme developer on your Access Pro Premium Theme, as that is part of what you pay for when you buy a Premium theme.
