Adding custom domain – is free domain redirected?

  If we get a custom domain name from WordPress, does the free domain name (example.wordpress.com) stay with us and is it redirected to the custom domain name? If it is redirected, for how long – forever? some time limit?

  if you get a custom domain name and domain map it to a blog here – the custom domain name will overlay the base blog name – about $18.-/yr I think for both – the old domain name will keep working

  the site linked to my name is domain mapped if you want to see how it looks and works

  you will still work with your dashboard etc in the base blog when you add Posts and pages etc
