  How can I add a custom widget such as the foodie blogroll widget with the code that they provide me?

  Depending on how the Widget is coded, you probably can’t.

  WP only allows approved widgets.

  The website has directions on how to add it onto the site, but it deletes the code when I try to enter it into the text box

  If it mentions ‘javascript’ anywhere, it won’t work here.
