adding .docx file links to wordpress website

  After uploading the docx files and then adding the links, the links don’t work. Someone said to download ‘Mammoth docx converter’ plugin but that appears to only embed the file text to a page (whereas i just want to add a useable document link)

  I don’t have a site linked to this WordPress.com account

  Thanks for getting in touch
  The link is in a protected area of the website accessible by password only.
  I have found a way around the problem which is to create new ‘elements’ and then I also have to add new ‘links’ as copy/paste doesn’t work. There are lots of links/elements that i have to redo, so was hoping i wouldn’t have to do that
