Hi, I bought a domain from godaddy and when I tried to add the domain it asks me to pay for it. I never had this issue before.

Requires help to add domain and hosting that I bought from go-daddy and i do not wish to take any wordpress plan since I used a free theme to create a website. I have been using WordPress since school. I am really disappointed with this issue and it asking to pay to use a domain That I already paid for. it doesn’t make sense to me.

It’s not asking you to pay for your domain. It is asking you to pay to use that domain at a site hosted here. Things are only completely free here for sites with an address that ends in .wordpress.com. Free sites with wordpress-generated ads, just 1 GB storage etc are fine for hobby sites but not really that great if you have a Business.

  • Hello there,

I understand you hoped to use the domain with a free plan. However, as indicated above, it does require a plan. You can select one from Upgrades > Domains.

Using a custom domain for your website enhances professionalism and credibility, reinforces your brand, and improves search engine optimization (SEO), making it easier for people to find you online. It allows you to create personalized email addresses, offers complete ownership and control over your online presence, and is easier to market and remember. Custom domains also provide a sense of security to visitors, enable better tracking and analytics, and can scale with your website as it grows. Securing a custom domain early prevents domain squatting, protecting your brand as it gains recognition.

If you would like assistance choosing a plan, please feel free to reply to this message.
