Adding downloaded theme
-
Hey guys! I just bought a domain now through WordPress, esmone.com, but I want to install a custom theme that I have downloaded from wpshower.com. Where do I do this, though? Is there any way to do it via FTP or just through the web interface?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Oh, and, the theme can’t be found when searching for it through WordPress, it’s not available for some reason, even though it is from wpshower.com

The fact that you bought a domain name for your site here at wordpress.COM does not change any of the restrictions or terms of service, it just makes your site here appear with your own domain name in the address bar.
We cannot add themes at wordpress.COM. We are limited to the 150+ (and growing) themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes. Themes found on the internet are for self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs like the one linked to your username and we cannot install individual plugins or third party themes into them. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software. Please read: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Ah, ok, seems like I’m not the first person to do this. WordPress should maybe think about explicitly informing people of this before they buy their domain at wordpress.com, so as to not fool more people into this.

Front page of support documentation:
WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
WordPress.com is a hosted blog service. You do not have to download software, pay for hosting or manage a web server. WordPress.com does not permit uploading themes or plugins. WordPress.org is free software. You can install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database. Check out our article on the differences.

Important Notes Before Upgrading
Advertising – While a blog must have a mapped domain in order to qualify for WordAds, the Domain Mapping Upgrade does not otherwise permit advertising on your blog. Same Terms of Service –- The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not permit the use of any kind of prohibited code or upload additional themes or plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required to abide by our Terms of Service.
New URL’s- If you add domain mapping to an existing blog with posts, their URL’s will change. We’ll redirect any visitors looking for the old URL’s over to the new ones, so none of your visitors will get lost out there on the internet, but other services won’t always understand that the old links and the new links point to the “same” place. For example, Tweet counter widgets work based on particular URL’s, so old posts’ counts will be reset to 0. Once you make the change, future posts will not be affected.

I always tell people that each upgrade applies specifically only to exactly what it says.
You won’t be sorry for getting a custom domain, though. It is the single most important upgrade available and will pay off in tons of ways.
