Adding email address to bensonandfox.com
-
HI.
I’m trying to add another email address to bensonandfox.com, so I can send from it from my gmail, as I’ve done before. But the gmail set up keeps messaging “Your other email provider is responding too slowly. Please try again later or contact the administrator of your other domain for further information”.
Can you advise? Many thanks, Grant.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Grace
No, not trying to add custom records, just send from my gmail using the wordpress email addresses. I only set this up last year, and was easy then, but now either I’m doing something wrong or it does not work.
eg yesterday I had ‘(email visible only to moderators and staff)’ available in gmail, and while trying to add ‘(email visible only to moderators and staff)’, deleted the first one. Now can’t add either of them, as I keep getting the “Your other email provider is responding too slowly…. contact the administrator of your other domain for further information”. Hence me contacting WP.
Thanks! -
So you’re just adding the Email Forwards? I just emailed one of the email forwards as a test and found that it was working.
Are you testing this from the Gmail account that your email forwards are forwarding to? Please note that it will not work as Gmail will consider it a duplicate. Can you try testing from an email not attached to Gmail account?

Ah, no.
The forwards work just fine, I’ve tested those. But when I am in my gmail account, and wish to send an email, I can select if it comes from “grant***@gmail.com” or from (email visible only to moderators and staff).I wish to recreate (email visible only to moderators and staff) (which I deleted this morning by mistake), and add for the first time (email visible only to moderators and staff).
This is something done from gmail set up, but every time I try, I get the error message as above, saying contact “other domain”.

You shouldn’t have to set up anything on Gmail’s end when you set up an Email Forward.
Please note that with email forwards, people can email you at the forwards you created, but when you reply they will see your Gmail version, not the forwarded version.
For example, if you set up a forward from (email visible only to moderators and staff) to your Gmail account and someone contacts you by writing to (email visible only to moderators and staff), when you respond to that email, they will see your actual Gmail.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Sorry Grace – this has absolutely nothing to do with forwarding.
To explain again:
I’m trying to set up Gmail to send emails with the address with my domain name (bensonandfox.com) in the ‘from’ field (eg – (email visible only to moderators and staff)). I did this last year – now it won’t work, and I get the message above.

If you are trying to set up full email hosting via Google Apps (this allows you to have your forwarded address in the from field) you will have to add custom records to make this work as I mentioned here:
If you set this up via Gmail somehow, please contact their support as we wouldn’t be able to troubleshoot that for you.

Thanks Grace. The more I look into it, the more it seems that it’s something google has changed. I’ll follow up with them.
