Adding extra storage

    I’ve just hit the storage limit on my blog and obviously want to keep adding content. However, I wouldn’t use any of the other features offered in the Personal Plan, just the storage upgrade. As my blog is an archive I don’t want to delete earlier photos to make more space as this makes posts that are still being accessed redundant. Is there any way I can buy extra storage just on its own and not through the Plan?

    To the best of my knowledge, unless you had purchased and regularly maintained a storage plan upgrade prior to the changeover to Plans, the only way to increase your existing storage is to upgrade to a Plan.

    If you upgrade to the Personal plan, that will give you an additional 3GB of storage space. You’ll also enjoy the other benefits of the upgrade (no ads, direct support from Staff) even if you don’t use the domain credit.

    However, this thread has been tagged for Staff input.

    Hi Alex,

    As @justjennifer mentioned, you would need to upgrade your plan if you want additional storage space. The free plan gives you 3GB of storage and the Personal plan gives you 6GB storage in total, doubling what you have now.

    Going forward, if you want to get the most out of the storage space, you could look at reducing file sizes with image optimization. The process is explained here:

    Absolutely the best way to maximize your storage and preserve image clarity is resizing and optimizing before you upload your image to your WordPressdotcom site. Unless your theme requires a larger featured image, a good overall size to aim for is a max of 1600 pixels wide.

    A bit off-topic but the theme you are using, Mistylook, is now a retired theme. I would like to suggest that you consider switching to a newer theme. As time goes on retired themes like Mistylook are no longer updated and do not support WordPressdotcom’s new features. Also, not using a responsive width theme can have an impact on your site ranking in search engine returns.
