Adding Google Analytics Without Plugin

I am trying to install Google Analytics on my website without using a plugin. I want to use the Direct Paste Method. It is stating that I have to paste my tracking code in my theme’s header.php right after the <body> tag. How do I do that? I have the tracking code from Google Analytics, but I cannot find where to paste it on my website to get it to work and link together. Thank you.

    Hi there,

Please note that that would not be possible on WordPress.com. If you need Google Analytics, it would be best to move to the self-hosted, WordPress install on WordPress.org. Here’s a guide on moving to WordPress.org:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:
