Adding grid page to Sela static front page widget
-
I am trying to insert a grid page with child pages (and their featured photo) in one of the front widget areas on my page JUST like the Sela demo page. I cannot figure out how to link the grid page parent page to that widget area.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The tiles on the Sela demo page site are actually text widgets which can be added to First, Second and Third Front Page Widget Areas from the Appearance > Widgets screen. They are not child pages. It is a bit confusing.
1. Set the page template of your front page to Front Page. Here is how to set page template: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/#template
2. Add text widgets to First, Second and Third Front Page Widget Areas form Appearance > Widgets screen. You will have to add the image using html. Here is the guide to adding html to text widgets: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/#adding-html
Give it a try and feel free to ask if you have any questions.

This is taken directly from the Sela theme page:
“Grid Template
The Grid Page template is designed to show child pages in a grid format. To get started, first create or edit a page, and assign it to the Grid Page template from the Page Attributes box. The content of this page and featured image – if one is set – will be displayed above the grid.
To add items to the grid, create additional pages and set their parent page in the Page Attributes box to the grid page you just created. Be sure to set a featured image for each child page if you want an image to show up inside the grid. Repeat these steps for every item you want to display in the grid.”

I’m trying to recreate the grid page and the link to the grid page’s parent page just like in the demo (the second front page widget area).
My front page is already set to front page (my home page).
The information on the Sela theme page indicates that it is some how possible to create a parent page, child pages (in which the grid will show images of those child pages with the parent page being set to grid page), and linking it all to the front page widget area.

I think I got it closer to what I want with the image widget. Thanks. I’ll keep working on it.

I see what you mean.
1. Create a parent page and set its page template to Grid Page template.
2. Create three child pages.
3. Set parent page as front page by following the instructions in this support document: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/
