adding html and javascript to sidebar
-
How can I add (as in blogspot, for exammple) html or javascript either manually in the template (which I can’t find) or as a widget? I recently imported my blogger page to WordPress, with no trouble, except for the sidebar stuff – pictures linked to sites, customized blogrolls, technorati, TTLB ratings – stuff like that.

Javascript is banned – no exceptions, even in templates. The official reason is “security issues”. The template you can change as you want, once you purchase the custom CSS option under “Upgrades”
You can put HTML in the widgets, but not all elements are allowed. Select a “text” widget (add a new one if you need to) and drop it into your sidebar. Then put the HTML into the text widget and it will come straight through – but any prohibited elements in the HTML will be removed. -
Yeah, thanks I did that, and it stripped the html elements – tried several times – also, I can’t get a logo linked to another site to load. Screw it, maybe I’ll try typepad.

It should not strip them all – have a look at mine. Most of the external image includes work the way they should.

Have you tried what the FAQs suggests? http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/18/put-an-image-in-your-sidebar/
These are the allowed html tags http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/08/allowed-html-tags/ -
You can also grab the wordpress software from http://wordpress.org and find a host for your blog. You would have total control over the site which would allow you to edit the themes to your liking.
But to echo ozrisk, javascripts are banned due to security concerns. There’s a FAQ on the subject along with links as to what they can do in a shared environment like this one. Another thread on the subject here as well.
