Adding image from URL not working

    I am trying to add an image to a wordpress post from an external site.

    For some reason, I’ve been able to do this before, but it stopped working for some reason:

    I follow the basic steps as outlined by wordpress, and I enter the correct URL (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_sPnaZ3qjc4Y/S0LOs0mlaFI/AAAAAAAAAC4/oSvXOd_CxJA/s1600-h/CIMG7592.JPG). When I do this, an “X” appears to the left of the URL. I cannot add images via URL. I realize I can upload the image directly from my computer, but I don’t exactly have the money to buy a space upgrade at the moment.

    Did something change on wordpress, because this really used to work just fine before …

    A. Unless you are doing something really unusual, like uploading 8M photos directly from your digital camera, it will take you a long, long time to use up the free 3G space WordPress.com provides with your blog. For maximum use of your space, I strongly suggest resizing and optimizing your images before uploading them.

    B. If you are getting an X next to the URL box, it may be a sign that the site you are trying to link your image from doesn’t allow it.

    As Jennifer says, you don’t need the space upgrade: your free 3G space is enough for a few thousand images like the one you’re interested in now.

    Besides, if you rely on images hosted elsewhere, your blog will load slower, and you run the risk of losing images if they are removed from their original webpage.

    The bottom line with Blogger ie. blogspot is that “hotlinking” to images on their servers is not allowed. The software will detect that’s what you are doing and thwart your efforts. There are MANY free image hosting services online that you can use, if you do not wish to upload the images from your computer into the wordpress.com servers. Under “image hosting” on this page http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/resources you will find 16 free image hosting services.
