adding images

I am unable to understand how to add pictures to my posts or to my sidebar through a text widget. I went to the fAQ and it had some video which I cannot see because I have dial-up. On Blogger you simply browse your computer pictures and open the one you want. Here I apparently need the URL which I have no idea where to find. Can I still use the photo’s I have uploaded to my computer pics? Or must I do something else? Sorry, but I’m not computer savvy and I don’t understand most of this stuff.
I do best when someone assumes i know nothing and tells me step by step how to proceed. Again, I’m sorry. I just can’t understand this stuff. I have all regular sized photo’s that I get off mostly museums that I use every day on my posts. This is important to me that I can use them each day.

If you want to add pictures to a text widget, the most non-tech way is to go to your text editor and write the text you want and add the pictures you like just as though you are writing a post. Use the visual editor. When you get stuff the way you like it (remember that the sidebars where widgets are narrow), switch to html. Select all and copy that. Then go to your sidebar widget and paste the html code there. Save. Check if it’s what you want by looking at your site.
For your pics, use thumbnails or make the thumbnails smaller (use the tree icon in the visual editor) for a sidebar widget. They can be clicked on to be seen larger.

Thanks but that made no sense at all to me. I am in the visual text editor. When I hit add image, it asks for an image URL. I have no idea what that is or where to find it. I’m used to it saying browse and opening my computer pictures for me to choose from. As I said, i do not understand. You say “add the pictures you like” and that’s exactly what I want to do but have no clue how to do so. I get that once I have the picture loaded to the editor, then I can switch to HTML and copy that out and add it to the text widget. I’m still not getting at all how to add the image in the first place. I CANNOT watch the video in FAQ, not everyone has DSL or cable or satellite. We live in a rural area where none is available.

You have to upload the picture first. Go into the write post screen and click on the add media icon. Then you can browse your computer to find the image. Once you have loaded the image, you will see the URL on the screen. Copy that and paste it into the text widget.
