Adding images to menus

How do I add an image to a custom menu? When I try to upload an image, it goes into the body of the page.
Thanks. GillianThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there gscobie,
You can add images to pages, posts and text widgets but you cannot add them to navigation menus. With custom menus you can customize the tabs appearing in your blog’s navigation menus. Please read the support documentation so you are crystal clear on what a custom menu can and cannot be used for. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ -
It just occurred to me that you may not have any experience with uploading images. Please see this illustrated support documentation entry http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/
Hope this helps. :) -
Okay this is my last guess. You may be trying to add a favicon image AKA a blavatar. If so then please see this entry > http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/
WHEW! Please let me know which one you were looking for, okay? :)

It’s pretty simple to add an image to your menu items.
In the label field, put an
<img>tag such as this:<img src="location/of/image.png" alt="Link Title" /> -
Freythman I cannot get this to work as you suggest. It appears that HTML is stripped out of the Custom Menu label field. Could you give an example of this workaround in action?
As far as I know you would need the CSS upgrade to put images in the navigation menus but I’d love to be wrong.

You know what hallluke, I think I need to stop trolling the wordpress.COM forums, and stick to the wordpress.ORG ones….
I just realized that this is posted on the .COM forums…
I tried my own suggestion, and lo and behold, you are correct. I do have a wordpress.ORG blog setup with this functionality, but I was unable to get it to work on a wordpress.COM one.
My apologies.
