Adding images to my pages re new 'web site'
-
OK I’ll not get into that now. Any idea (estimate) of how long it might take for ‘staff’ to reply with their ‘solution’?
-
Hi there,
Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – earliest date and time are first served, as would be expected. How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are are.
Don’t bump your thread here because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get help.

Hi there,
It looks like Honey Silvas was able to help you quite a bit. Thank you Honey!
From what I’ve read it looks like you want to order the attachment pages once you click on an image in a gallery. However, please note that wouldn’t be possible via code or editing the gallery. The order is determined by the order in which you uploaded the images.
One of the reasons that the attachment pages don’t re-order is if you had them in multiple galleries, the burden on memory for them to change around depending on what post the user was in would be too large to be sustainable, since those are the original file pages for the images, and aren’t associated with posts independently.
So the gallery view is supposed to help this. Your viewers can look at the images in the order you’ve chosen, no matter how many posts use a particular image or series of images. However, if you click on the images to view the attachment pages it will be in the order that you uploaded the images.
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

I’ll have to think about this , when I have more time, maybe tomorrow. Just to be clear, the issue I am talking about re Gallery page is. when I click the [next] button, I would like to see the next image showing, in order, on the Gallery lay out , and NOT a ‘random’ image…which , if I understand you correctly, is actually the image I uploaded in the order I uploaded…..this is very confusing, as obviously, did not upload in strict order , as displayed. Please advise.

Yes this is correct.

Yes please, I have questions with this. You wrote:

(1) “the gallery view is supposed to help this.” OK. provided viewers DON’T use the [next] tab, which clearly doesn’t give the [next] gallery image; instead, if what you say is correct, it will give the next in the order that I uploaded the images. But surely this is confusing to viewers, who expect to see the next gallery image?
Of course, [next] and [previous] tabs are normally useful in viewing a website, but not here.(2) Is there any way to improve this situation for the viewer? Or is the last resort to completely DELETE all the Gallery images and then upload them again ,in the order which I want the Gallery to show them…and NOT use the ‘DROP IN’ method of creating the order of the images in the Gallery. This last resort makes me feel weak at the knees , if I have to relocate and re-organise all the images again, for uploading.
Looking forward to your reply.

Unfortunately, this would be the only option it you want this gallery in thumbnail view.
However, one way to bypass all of this would be to enable the gallery carousel. Then, the order would be the order in which you entered the images in your gallery. It will look like this:
You can enable this by going to Settings > Media in your Dashboard:
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Hi gracejiyoung. Thank you for your reply. Ok , for now,in the gallery,
I have ticked : “carousel enabled” .The text for the last entry ” The Originof UFOs” says that if you look “below” you can see the YouTube ‘cartoon’ playing once. In Carousel mode you can’t , of course, and need to go back to just before the carousel mode (which I think are thumbnails anyway, and look below them.
…………….
It’s a 1.34 min slow ‘cartoon’. Can you see it. I think it may not be working though? it was before! Can you identify the reason?
………………..
Also, although I’m not 100% sure, the images in the carousel mode are not as large as the images when we were clicking the thumbnail mode earlier, where we had the problem with the [next] button etc. -

Yes that is correct because Youtube videos cannot be added to a gallery.

There is something wrong with the Youtube link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jlUEr7zM0?
There is an error from Youtube. Please try re-uploading the video.
Also, although I’m not 100% sure, the images in the carousel mode are not as large as the images when we were clicking the thumbnail mode earlier, where we had the problem with the [next] button etc.
The image sizes will change depending on your display size which is great, so that readers with smaller displays will still be able to see your full images without zooming out.
Cheers!

Hi gracejiyoung, thank you for helping …can we go back to the last issue:
re: “There is something wrong with the Youtube link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jlUEr7zM0
There is an error from Youtube. Please try re-uploading the video.”
Essentially, i don’t know how to re-uploading the video. Somebody else did it for me back in July. I’ve looked hard at the edit options and can’t find the way of doing it to replace the one that is not working , at the bottom of the Gallery page, underneath the thumbnails.
I know it works,( it did before) …because as a ‘fail safe’ I have added the URL INTO the text info that goes with the ‘thumbnail’ image ie the last image in the Gallery. …and it works from there. The URL also works when clicked from the Carousel mode. I have also added the URL onto the ‘LINK’ page…and it works there too. However, I would prefer it if the original one, below the thumbnails also worked.
Can you help with this please?
-
Hi Gracejiyoung.
I just sent a message but it didn’t seem to go through so I am retyping it. Apologies if this does end up as a repeat.
First thank you for everything before but can we go back to the issue of re-uploading the video: viz:
” There is something wrong with the Youtube link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jlUEr7zM0″
As a ‘fail safe’ for viewers, I have added the URL in 2 other places and it works there. ie INTO the body of the text /description that goes with the image…ie the last image on the gallery page :title: ‘The Origin of UFOs’. It works on clicking the texted URL from both the thumbnail layout AND the Carousel layout (sort of bypassing the need to add a video into the carousel. Second place I added the URL to was the LINKS page and it works from there too. However, I would really prefer it if it worked in the original position too, ie as a video link placed below the thumb nails and hence immediately after the relevant pic it relates too. Somebody else uploaded that one for me way back in July when I first started the project. I have tried everything and can’t make it happen. Can you help with this please.

Hi there,
Please note that the link you are using on your Gallery page is misspelled. You forgot the S.
The link is:
not
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jlUEr7zM0
Please edit the link on your Gallery page and you should be set!

Hi gracejiyoung,
THANK YOU! “the link you are using on your Gallery page is misspelled. You forgot the S.” Well spotted!
Really appreciate all the help you and other Forum members have given me.
May I ask another question about carousels? If in the future, I would like several additional different carousels under my Gallery page eg for ‘Older Work’ or ‘Recent Work’ , would that be that possible? eg calling current carousel Work from 2003-2013. If so, could I add them before or after current carousel, as I choose? Would I be able to keep that link with the previous misspelled missing S to immediately follow the current carousel, as it does now?

Yes you may. There is no limit to the number of carousels you can add.
eg calling current carousel Work from 2003-2013. If so, could I add them before or after current carousel, as I choose? Would I be able to keep that link with the previous misspelled missing S to immediately follow the current carousel, as it does now?
Yes this is also possible. Just add the carousel above the current one and leave the link and current carousel in place.
-
Thanks. I understand that. However, if I wanted a third carousel with ‘Older work or archive’ , I’d probably want it to sequentially to follow in the order: first ‘new or recent work’ , then ‘Work from 2003-2013’, and last the one with ‘Older work or archive’. Wouldn’t the last one displace that link with the previous misspelled missing S which needs to immediately follow the current carousel, as it does now? ie I’m assuming that link will always come after the carousels, and can’t be inserted between 2 carousels, or is there a way to do that?

Bye the way, where can I find out how to use the ‘markups’ ?? :

You can move around the carousels to your liking within the post editor. There is no order that must be maintained. You can add a carousel wherever you want here:
https://moichabrahams.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=7&action=edit
Bye the way, where can I find out how to use the ‘markups’ ?? :
Do you mean markdown? :
-
(1) “You can move around the carousels to your liking within the post editor.”
OK. Does this include relative to the position of links?
ie does that mean they can be ordered or put before or after any links on the Gallery such as the one we have been talking about a lot
ie that link with the previous misspelled missing S which needs to immediately follow the current carousel, as it does now?ie The link is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jlUEr7SzM0(2)
“Bye the way, where can I find out how to use the ‘markups’ ?? :
Do you mean markdown? “On the LEFTof the ‘message’ box where I enter my message, is written:
“Allowed markup: a blockquote code em strong ul ol li.
You can also put code in between backtick ( ` ) characters.”which I don’t understand either)
So I assumed the characters referred to ABOVE the ‘message’ box are also called ‘markup’. I’ve copied them here with hyphens between , so that perhaps they stay visible to you?
s-t-r-o-n-g — e-m — l-i-n-k — q-u-o-t-e — u-l — o-l — l-i — c-o-d-e — c-l-o-s-e
Can you see them?
-

ie that link with the previous misspelled missing S which needs to immediately follow the current carousel, as it does now?Yes you can. Are you unable to do it? Add the carousel you want and I can move it around for you if you want. The link can be anywhere you place it.
“Bye the way, where can I find out how to use the ‘markups’ ?? :
Please note that strong is bold, em is italicize, link is linking text, quote is blockquoting, ul ol and li are different types of list, code is adding code, and close is closing a tag.
You can add this to your posts via the Text Editor. All there options are also available in the Visual Editor. Take a look at the links for more information.
