adding javascript to wordpress

  • Unknown's avatar

thx…. i’m looking at having the site hosted on another server but that’s going to require some work. It’s too bad that you couldn’t just allow us to put the analytics script in but I understand that would be hard to moderate.

also i don’t understand your point (respectfully) here with this comment:
“Also for reference, Google themeselves doesn’t allow multiple installs of their Urchin tracking software on a single site.”

  • Unknown's avatar

It means that since WordPress.com itself is already running Urchin on our blogs, we cannot do it ourselves: there’s only ONE opportunity to run the script on a given site, and WordPress has already taken that for our blogs. So it’s not only against policy, it’s not possible.

Hi. I want to include a javascript like this:
    <SCRIPT TYPE=”text/javascript” LANGUAGE=”Javascript” text_of_the_script”></SCRIPT>

I want to know how can i do that. Including in html code that label, it doesn´t work.

    Any kind of help?

    Regards

Well I have the same problem. Do WordPress has installed a script that i know how many visitor current online?

    Thanks

You don’t need to install a script and you couldn’t anyway, as it clearly says in this thread. Just put the “who’samongus” widget in your sidebar.

It works just fine in WordPress.com

So, am I understanding that individual blogs can be hacked through a Javascript on a personal blog? Or is it solely a collective security (hacking/malicious code) issue for the entire blogging platform? Either one stinx, but would like to know if it’s one or both.

What if I find an outside hosting service and run wordpress.org? Can I implement Javascript in this scenario?

  • Unknown's avatar

If you leave wordpress.com hire a web host and download a free wordpress.org blog template which runs on completely different software than wordpress.com does then you can have javascript.

You need to send a Feedback to staff to let them know. They don’t always read the forums.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, whoever says you can’t add Last.fm because of Java, or HTML, or any other widget is just not knowing what he or she is talking about, and it does not matter if it is a blogger or the owner of the damn WordPress. I have been developing websites for 10 years, and if the staff here is not competent enough to allow java AND still protect THEIR butt, well guess what it is not my business.

Do like me, got to Blogger. I spent 1 hour figuring out everything I can’t do here, and it took me 1 minute to add Last.fm widget with all the java it contains on Blogger.

Bottom line, the problem is not Last.fm, it is not you, it is not me, it is not java, it is WordPress!

    flexindesign,

ah, it seems interesting that you’ve been developing websites for 10 years and you still don’t know the difference between Java and JavaScript…

“ah, it seems interesting that you’ve been developing websites for 10 years and you still don’t know the difference between Java and JavaScript…”

play with words as long as you wish if you have time, when you will post what I posted in same time as you get your work done, at the speed at which I do it, jungling between French and English, VB.NET and C#, ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0, HTML and CSS, XML and MXML…. will see how much time you will have to play smart.

By the way, I do not do neither Java nor Javascript (what century are you leaving in) so what you are doing is making fun of a Japanese who do not speak properly German. No sense, for the least….

    @flexindesign
Have you considered spending all the time and energy that you are putting into using this support forum as your personal soapbox to rail against wordpress into posting to your wordpress.com blog instead?

If you took the contents of all the posts you have made to the forum today and put them into your wordpress.com blog in the form of posts then, you could stimulate dialog and comments on your blog. You could get hits on your wordpress blog and increase your page rank on your blog. But posting into forum threads here doesn’t achieve any of those goals.

Now you made a point !!! I am way overdue but yes, it is half way done (where done is containing enough pertinent information to be opened). For now, it is called Fratlabs and is reserved to my clients and I. But I am not here to promote my work, and this is actually going to make you laugh but one day you will understand: I like WordPress, they are the best around. That is why it get me MAD to see how much they are sparing their value and going down the wrong way with that template thing and no java no html.

I am helping them right now, by raising opinions.

NB: Actually you just got me an idea, I should blog about why and what WP is doing wrong… maybe that will force the way for change if enough people react. How many users or viewers do you thing I can get in lets say less then 2 weeks… ? 100? 1000? 5000?

timethief : thank you! I am sincere, you are perfectly right and finally someone’s making sense. I will execute right away, lets find that blog a name….

  • Unknown's avatar

Good on you and best wishes. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Well yes a name for the blog would be a great start. As would a link in your user profile. :)

    No timethief, no!
Flex In Design (and flexindesign.wordpress.com) is my consultancy and its blog, it is blank and just a depository for my social networks links.

I told you earlier, my working blog is a private one for my clients and I (password protected).

What we talked about is another (new) blog where I could make my points about what I believe should change as far as WordPress itself is concerned and see if there is a following or not.

For now I registered those drafts:

    letschange.wordpress.com
    castme.wordpress.com
    castmyvoice.wordpress.com

atthe404: you will not find more open and transparent than myself!

My name is Stephane Beladaci and is posted all over the place we call the web, and my profile here at WP indeed has a link to my LinkedIn profile which is my only maintained public place for now (for now!)…

    But here it is:
    http://www.linkedin.com/in/flexdesigner

If I have an account somewhere (pretty much all social websites), it is always under the same username flexdesigner (or flexindesign if the first one is taken).

    Simple, straight forward.
