adding javascript to wordpress
-
Using blogosphere from blogrush for example. I am trying it out. I might not end up using it, but it requires Java Script. I don’t use other Javascript or at least have not yet.
-
I could be wrong but it would seem that javascript might not be the only issue with BlogRush or any other affiliate scheme designed to artificially increase hits. It would also seem that this thread has gone way off topic. I would like to suggest that you check out the other free blogging hosts. Happy blogging. :)

Okay, so let me get this straight. We can’t have Javascript because we all have the NAME.wordpress.com URLs and that causes security issues, right?
Well, is it possible for them to give us an option to allow Javascript if we have upgraded to a domain name through WordPress.com? I mean, if I did that, my blog wouldn’t be NAME.wordpress.com and it would have a different domain name.
Basically, can’t they add an option to allow Javascript for those that have upgraded their WordPress.com account with a domain?

alextaldren, it wouldn’t matter even if you added the domain name versus the wordpress.com name because it is still run on wordpress multi-user (this host). It isn’t setup to run individual javascript. The only other option would be to hire a different host and install the downloadable version of wordpress from http://wordpress.org.
It has to do with the hosting service itself, not the domain names!
Hope that clarifies for you!

alextaldren, theoretically, yes, a different domain name mitigates JS* related security issues.
but as long as:
* all the wp.com users are authenticated via cookie sent from .wordpress.com domain (instead of NAME.wordpress.com, which would already counted as a different domain)and
* blog admin dashboard resides in the same very domain this auth. cookie has been sent from,
I’d put practical chances of implementing an option that would allow JS for those who have upgraded their WordPress.com account with a custom domain close to nil.
WP.MU is “multi-user” only by its name. it’s like being on a low-end shared web hosting, where any of the neighbours hosted on the same box as you, can crash a process serving both your and their sites.
besides buying a web hosting, you can also go for another free public weblog services which are truly MU and allow to run individual JS.
so yeah, Trent is absolutely correct — ‘It has to do with the hosting service itself, not the domain names!’
HTH to let you get this straight!
.
*) actually it’s about auth. cookies -
-
thank you, folks! almost always at your service, trying to do my best ;-)
that’s, by the way, is one of the reasons why a fairly known weblog spot serves its dashboards on a completely different domain, than blogs itself (if you ever wondered about it).
and that’s also why that other services now send only secure HttpOnly* cookies for authentication of their users.
and that’s also why the Mozilla Foundation has finally implemented HttpOnly cookies in their well known browser — and it took them just Five F..king Years to apply a patch, twice sponsored for that time!
.
* not available for the client-side scripting, like for browser JS engine. -
yeah javascript is really good u can do many stuff with it but oh well i reckon wordpress’s the easiest blog platform to use
-
hell yeah, lots of people reckon this way. without their host, of course.
in such a case, reckoning twice oft avails them more.
