adding link to image gallery not working

I am trying to add links to certain images from my media gallery and when I update the page, the links are removed automatically. Please help

How are you trying to add links? Are you trying to add them in the Media Library itself? Or are you trying to add them to an image that has been inserted into a post or a gallery?

Hi there. I tried adding links to images in a gallery on my blog and got the same result. I also tried disabling the image carousel under Settings ->Media, but even then I could only change the link for the entire gallery (instruction #8 under Adding a Gallery in the support doc), and not for individual images. So, it seems to me that’s how it has been designed.

On the following screen, click on each image to edit its title, caption, alternate text, and description.
According to this you cannot edit the link, even though the option appears on the screen. On the screen shot there you also can’t see the link option for individual images. Probably the option appearing for us is the glitch, not the fact that we can’t change it.
The only other thing that might work is to try adding the link to the image by editing the image in the media library itself, but it’s a long shot. Galleries seem to work according to different rules than single images.

If you are using the Gallery feature as describe in that Support doc, it will only link to the Photo Carousel, Attachment Pages (the image on a separate page using your theme’s template) or Media Files.
There is a glitch right now that displays the Attachment Display Settings fields in the Edit Gallery screen, but as you have discovered, the Gallery ignores anything you’ve entered there.

I would like to work through with the workaround, but I am not so familiar with the HTML.
I didnot understand where to add what URL and really got confused in Visual and Text tab.
Although my images have a URL in the media library, the URL disappears when I add them to the gallery
Please help me out… -
The easiest thing to do is to open a draft post/page that you will only use for creating the HTML for the links.
Create each link using the Visual Editor’s tools and when you are done, switch to the Text Editor and copy/paste the resulting HTML into either the caption area of the image or in the description, or both.
