Adding links in text not working
-
Hi Im trying to add links in my text on my blog in the HTML section of a new post, I add it the same way I always do, but now it only shows up as a blank space – excluding the text added as a link. It just won’t let me add linkable text any more. What is happening?
Please Help and Thank YOU!

When you say “in the html section,” do you mean using the html editor? Have you tried switching to the visual editor to see whether you can add it that way?
Also, I stopped by your blog. I see that it’s a photo blog, but I noticed two things immediately: 1) download time is significantly longer than I experience with other webpages, and 2) in the text portion of your blog, I can only read the links, not the text. I could barely tell there was text there. This may be a feature of the theme you chose — or could be an artifact resulting from my not allowing the page to fully load before finally clicking away, but I thought I’d mention it.
If you’re interested in having your page load faster, you might consider either displaying fewer posts per page or using the “more tag” after the first photo in each post — that way, you’d still have some of your visual content visible, but not all the photos for each post would be loading on the blog posts page.
Completely unsolicited advice! So, as with all such advice, feel free to ignore it! :-)

@gretchenrobinette
Please confirm whether or not you have CSS edited your theme as this sure does not sound like a CSS editing question to me.Instructions for inserting links are found here > How to Create Links with the HTML Editor > http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#how-to-create-links-with-the-html-editor
Provided you are not attempting to add advertising links or affiliate links of any kind they will not be stripped out by the software. If you try those instructions again and still have the same if then it’s likely you have a browser issue.
- Try changing your browser settings, refreshing the page, or clearing the browser cache and cookies – instructions for specific browsers.
- Note that when you make adjustments to your browser settings — changing privacy settings, deleting cookies or increasing security — you will need to close your window and restart the browser before those new settings become effective.
- You could try upgrading your browser. http://browsehappy.com
- You could try using another browser.

Okay I have just seen another thread by this same user and it is an associated CSS editing question so I will now vacate this thread. Whatever is going on with the black background, dark blue links that disappear into it, and the text that’s barely discernible must be a result of CSS editing, as this theme is Twenty Ten and it’s normally a highly readable theme.

We can’t really help unless you tell us what this same way is. Please paste an example here between backticks.

I am trying to add links through the HTML Editor, exactly as the instructions say here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#how-to-create-links-with-the-html-editor
Its worked fine for all my other posts, but now the text words with links in a new post I am trying to do, are not visible when previewed – just shows a blank space where the linked text should be.
This is not a CSS editing question, Im just making a regular blog post.
@timetheif: As far as CSS editing, I did edit it – I changed the back ground to grey, then changed the text to white. I don’t know what you mean (@timethief) by “dark blue lines that disappear in to it”. I don’t see those. If they are there, then something must be terrible wrong.
If the link text is not visible due to a CSS editing problem, wouldn’t all the previous posts with linked texts show up blank too? It always worked fine, and suddenly doesnt.
@ mmadfan I tried the visual editor, it doesn’t have the link icon to add a link. It is only in the HTML editor. The text was super dark after I changed the background to grey, which is why I posted about how to change the text to white. So I changed it to white. NOw its visible.
I didn’t know the pages load super slow. I actually want the images to show up not be hidden as you suggested, so if this is not possible in WordPress without loading super slow, I guess I should not be using WordPress? They loaded fine in Tumblr. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions. I am not a CSS genius- all I wanted was the background dark to match my website, so I tried to do that, without paying someone to do these small changes. I also just wanted the images large, and to post a lot of them. But if this is all going to result in a messed up blog site, maybe I should go back to Tumblr. :(

Oh you mean the link tool of the editor. When you said HTML editor, I thought you were using coding for links, that’s why I asked for an example. The same tool is there on the visual editor too:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/
I don’t know why you’re getting a blank space: maybe the preview doesn’t take some of your CSS color changes into account? Is the linking text there when you’re viewing the HTML?As for the images, mmadfan is right. It’s not a question of WP vs Tumblr, it’s a question of visitors with fast vs slow connections. If the images load fast for you in Tumblr, they’ll load equally fast in WP. But for a visitor with a slow connection, they make take too long to load, or the browser may even time out before loading them and your visitor will see some nice empty squares instead of images. If you want full posts that’s fine – just limit the amount of posts per page to only a few in Settings > Reading.

Oh thanks, I found the link option in visual. It works there. THey do show up as I add them in HTML after I select, but when I hit preview, they are gone. I guess I’ll stick with Visual.
Ill check out the settings and change the post limit.
Thanks for your help. -
It works fine now.. btw , I was wondering how to change the links text color from purple to a different color.. Do you know the CCS edit for that section only?
Thanks so much!

I replied to that here:
