Consult your detailed theme description page here https://wordpress.com/themes/harmonic/ please.

Hi thanks for responding, I’ve tried that actually but the logo does not appear in the top banner–or anywhere for that matter. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong…

You’re welcome. However, I’m surprised because this is what’s on the detailed theme description page:
Harmonic supports the Site Logo feature. To brand your site and include your personal logo, navigate to Customize → Site Title and upload a logo image in the space provided.

Yes, I’ve tried that and the logo appears only in the side panel of the customizer but not anywhere on the site itself. I’ve tried shortening the title but there is just no image appearing in the top banner…

I figured out why it’s not appearing I need to set page to “front page” then the logo appears BUT not on the top banner next to the title–which is what we want.
So I think I have to edit/add code to the CSS in the optimiser. I think this is a premium option only (but I could get that). In any case, I’ve been playing around and added:
#masthead h1 {
background: url(“https://voiceforlifecoaching.files.wordpress.com/2016/03/cropped-voice-black-rgb1.jpg”) no-repeat scroll 0 0 transparent;
background-size: cover;
padding-right: 40px;
}But the logo appears either under the title text or if I remove the title text completely the logo is cut off in the corner of the top banner…
basically I want something that looks like this:
thanks again!

Note that once you have the required upgrade http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ that contains a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing you can use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can create a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need with CSS editing.
You can also post there prior to purchasing an upgrade to get an answer to whether or not what you want to do can be accomplished via CSS editing.
