adding media
-
I’m trying to add media from my Media Library, but nothing is working. I’ve tried :
1. Adding like I used to. It no longer works (as of roughly August, 2016). I used to upload the file to my Media Library first then link it to a highlighted word on any of my Pages. I typically select ‘open in new window’, and I never had a problem. Basically, I followed the exact steps in your help area for ‘adding media’. Now, however, when I do that, I get this message : ‘It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?’
2. I’ve tried both Word docs and PDF files. They both get me the same message as above. What changed? How do I add files?

For accepted file types for uploading see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/accepted-filetypes/
Are you running a browser and version of it found at http://browsehappy.com? If not, upgrade.
Uploading images into your Media Library does not embed them into posts or pages.
Have you exhausted your free media storage space?
Check herehttp://phantomasy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/upload.php
If the answer is yes go to Adding Storage Space
https://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/If the answer is no, then have you tried dragging an image straight from your desktop or computer’s image folder and drop it directly into your post’s editor?
If you prefer you can click on the Add Media button from the toolbar of your editor to upload an image to your post.

Not even remotely close to using up the media storage :(
On one site I have used 1.7MB out of 3GB.
On the other I have used 81.3MB out of 3GB.
I have tried doing the media attachments from both Chrome and Firefox. Neither work.
I have tried doing the media attachments from both a PC and a Mac. Neither work.
I think the thing that’s most frustrating to me is that it USED TO work really, really easily. Then something changed when I created a second site this past August, and I can’t figure out why :(

On my PC at work I’ve been primarily using Chrome, ver. 52.0. At home it’s a Mac, and I’ve been using Firefox….but I can’t remember what version, off hand. The tech guy at work told me to try Safari on my Mac at home, so I’ll try that tonight and see if it makes a difference!

No luck. I’ve been trying at home on Firefox (Mac ver. 48.0.1) since July with no luck. I just tried at home on Safari (Mac ver. 5.1) and that was just a huge mess–didn’t work, for one, but then kept on repeatedly giving me the “spinning rainbow wheel of death”.

Just tried it on my husband’s Mac as well. His had Safari ver. 6.2.8. Same thing. Same message of “Oops! It looks like nothing was found in this location. So, so, so frustrating. I feel like I’ve tried everything.
On both my work PC, my home Mac and my husband’s Mac, here are the exact steps I took every time :
1. Deleted the Word doc (just a simple class syllabus) from the Media file, just to start this process with a clean slate.
2. I clicked on “media”, then “add new”, then “select files”, then chose the Word doc syllabus from my desktop.
3. Then I went to “Pages” and went to the page I wanted my syllabus linked to and clicked “edit”.
4. Then I highlighted the words I wanted to link to my syllabus and clicked the “add media” button.
5. From the Media Library, I clicked on the Word doc (syllabus) and under “Attachment Details” on the right, I gave it a title and did the drop-down menu so it linked to an “attachment page”.
6. I clicked on “insert into page”.
7. I again highlighted the words that I wanted the Word doc to link to and underlined those words.
8. Then I clicked “update”.
9. I clicked “view page”.
10. I saw the words I wanted to hyperlink to my syllabus were now underlined, and I clicked on it.
11. I get a new page that pops up and reads : “Oops! That page can’t be found. It looks like nothing was found at this location. Maybe try a search?”As I wrote in various posts above, since July (when I added a second WordPress site to my account), this problem has happened on :
-PC, Chrome, ver. 52
-Mac, Firefox, ver. 48.0.1
-Mac, Safari, ver. 5.1
-Mac, Safari, ver. 6.2.8Following the exact steps above, for the past couple years that I’ve done my school website via WordPress, I have never had any issue on any computer nor on any browser. It’s always been easy and quick to upload, and my students haven’t had problems getting Word docs or PDF files off my website.

Hi, thanks. Can you step through this, then send me a link when you get to step 9? Leave the document and the link in place so we can check it.
If you don’t want to have a broken link on a live page, you’re welcome to create a private page and link us to that, too.
