adding Media Lib pic to Gallery, when editing a post

    I am just starting to use the Gallery feature and it is blowing some fuses in my head. When editing a post, I have no problem using the flash interface to add multiple images stored on my own computer, which invokes the Gallery feature, and I hum to myself happily as when the Edit Post screen, I click the Add/Upload image icon, and voila I get the flash interface and the images are added to a gallery displayed on the post. But when I try to use the same method to add images which are already in the media library…it all goes horribly wrong. Starting from the Edit Post screen, I click the Add/Upload image icon, then I select the Media Library tab, and then I hope it will all work just the same. But no. I can’t select any of the pix that are listed, though I think the interface should really let me do this – it seems to dangle the functionality in front of me then ignore me.

    The only way I have found of adding a Media Libary picture to a Gallery that is displayed via a Post is to (1) create and save a post, (2) attach a media library image to that post, via the totally clunkiod interface in Dashboard>Media Library, (3) edit the post and click the Add/Upload image icon, in which case the images that I attached earlier are rather mysteriously present on a new top tab called Gallery (1), which my attachment behaviour seems to have created.

    Now is when my brain starts to hurt. What is the underlying model here? This makes no sense to me – so I think there’s something I’m not getting about what Galleries really ‘are’, and how they might be expected to work. I’ve looked in Support and Forums, and found a tantalising reference to an unofficial Gallery FAQ. But I can’t find any Gallery FAQ anywhere – official, unofficial, or uncategorised…

    If anyone can give me some quick hints about a way to think about Gallery that makes sense, so I can make it stop hurting my brain, that would be fab. Or can anyone point me at this mysterious unofficial Gallery FAQ?
