Adding menu items and pages to Connections theme

The Connections theme has two default items in the menu – Home and About. I’ve created a page and assigned the About menu item as the parent. What I expected in that my page would appear in a drop-down under About but it does not. However, what I really want to do is create a new menu item, called Ramblings, then have my page (and others as I add them) appear under this menu item. I even tried creating a custom menu but my page did not appear in the list of pages so I could not add it to a menu item (the page is saved as a draft; is this the problem, do I have to ‘publish it’ to see it in the list of pages? I’d prefer to have it working correctly before publishing). Am I trying to do something which is not possible? I don’t think so because the illustration of the Connections theme shows it with additional menu items.
Can anyone tell me how to do what I want? I don’t know anything about CSS and although I may well upgrade later so I can format the text and add plugins I would like to do it in the free .com blog first if possible. Thanks. grumpytyke

Most themes here do not natively support dropdown submenus, so you need to create and use a custom menu.

Many thanks for this. I created the custom menu but the problem is that a page I created (it appears in the list when I click ‘all pages’ and I can edit it) doesn’t appear in the list of pages on the menu editing page so I cannot add it. I succeeded in producing additional menu items by selecting categories, and even managed to produce a drop down by shifting a subcategory to the right. But what has happened to the page I created and how do I get it to appear somewhere in the menu so it can be accessed? If I’m being thick please excuse. thanks.

    Yes.

Thanks. OK, I’ll have another careful look at the draft so I’m happy to publish then have a go.
