Adding meta tag to head section of my site index file – for Pinterest verificati

    I’m trying to verify my WordPress site for Pinterest, and cannot figure how to get to the file on the theme I’m using. As I’ve seen on the forum there were others having this issue with adding a meta tag to the head section of the index file. I am using the “Twenty Eleven” theme. When I go to “Appearance” in my Dashboard, there is no “Editor” option, so I’m stumped on how to get to the place to add the meta info from my Pinterest site.
    I read a couple of comments where someone spoke of using a “child” page? Also, if I insert the meta tag into the header section of the index file will it mess up my HEADER IMAGE?
