Adding mp3 to a page on my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I just purchased the 5GB upgrade so that I can upload mp3s to a page on my blog. The directions on the support page on how to do this are a bit confusing. I tried to use the upload “image, video, audio…” buttons in the editor, but it only puts the title on the page. I would like to upload mp3s from my computer, not the internet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks AR, http://www.knifetotheeyenews.wordpress.com

You want to put the URL of the file you uploaded directly into the audio shortcode (put it in while in the HTML tab).

    [audio URL_of_audio_file]

This is the most foolproof and reliable method.

Hi, thanks for the reply. However, I had already read that support link you posted there, and it isn’t very detailed. I have little to no HTML writing experience, and I no idea what I am doing. I finally got the player to show up, but I don’t know how I did it. When you click play it says “file not found.” When i purchased the upgrade today it made it sound like all you had to do was click the upload/insert add audio button, upload the mp3 to your wordpress media library, and the player and file would appear on the page just like if you were adding an image. Why is it more complicated than that, and where can I find detailed instructions that will walk me through the process? Thanks again, AR

We need a link to the audio file please.

Where do i get this link?

In your dashboard, go to the media library, hover your mouse over the file in the list, click edit. The file URL will be at the bottom of that screen in a grey box.

I am sure it is something that I am doing wrong. I thought it would be as easy as uploading an image. Can you just explain the process in simpler terms? Thanks.

    Here is the url. AC

Sorry about all the posts, but now if I just use the upload file button in the edit browser, I can get the link published on the page, and if you click it it opens the file in windows media player, however, the wordpress player does not show up, and if I add the [audio http...] to the url, it does not play, and instead opens a new tab that says error. I’ve put this code into my test blog

    [audio http://knifetotheeyenews.wordpress.com/files/2009/06/dustinnguyenheroes2009.mp3]

and you can try it here: http://opposablethumbz.wordpress.com/ .

It works in Safari 4, but not in FF 3.0.0.11. I then disabled adblockplus on Firefox and it works fine in Firefox also.

I now just re-enabled and restarted Firefox and it now works with adblockplus turned on.

    WordPress seems fickle tonight.

I’ve been trying to upload audio files for the past hour, either as .mp3 or as .wav type files. There are 2.9 GB remaining in my acct., but the MEDIA LIBRARY / AUDIO section does not show the new files.

Do you have the paid space upgrade? If not, you’ll have to find a free host elsewhere that allows hotlinking, and use the URL of the file there.

  • Unknown's avatar

I assume that the space upgrade is in place, because there are already 7 other mp3 files housed in the MEDIA LIBRARY / AUDIO section and there are 2.9 GB free. How can i ascertain whether or not i have the space upgrade? There are 2 or 3 options for which i am paying $10 per year each, and it seems like a real bargain to be on such a powerful, user-friendly platform.

Well, if you’ve successfully uploaded other MP3’s, I’d guess you’ve got the space upgrade. Note that .wav files cannot be uploaded. And for MP3’s, make sure there isn’t any punctuation in the file name, because that confuses WP.com.

You are awesome! Thank you so much.

    You’re welcome. Glad it helped.

It turns out i did NOT have the space upgrade. Either the old .mp3 files were grandfathered in, or i had an upgrade in the past which had lapsed. Now i have the 5GB. It DID allow me to add a .wav file. We’ll see if it plays. The directions do list .wav as 1 of the files you can add.

Ah, then part of my information is out of date too!

It’s probably too late now, but you don’t need the upgrade to have the audio player on your blog… you can get a free 1G account at Fileden.com, upload the mp3 there and insert the link into the audio short-code [audio URL_of_audio_file]

There are other free hosting sites, but fileden is the one I’ve been using for the past couple of months.
