Adding multiple RSS feeds to a page.

    Here’s the page:
    http://politicalbooks.wordpress.com/test/

On that page I created a very simple table with for example feeds. I’d like to remove those exampe words and put actual feeds in them. The WordPress RSS Widget would be fine, but I can only put that in the sidebar. I found a cool utility at rssinclude.com, but that requires php or java, both of which WordPress doesn’t accept (boo).

Any thoughts? Would it be possible if I bought the CSS upgrade?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

RSS feeds cannot be put in posts or pages here since that is a typical tool of sploggers (spam bloggers) and scrapers, and wordpress.COM makes sure to do nothing that would facilitate them.

“Would it be possible if I bought the CSS upgrade? “
No. We cannot edit the php or html in our underlying templates at wordpress.com http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

We can only have RSS feeds in our sidebars (widgets) and it’s not likely that wordpress.com will ever allow us to have RSS feeds on pages or posts as those are the “tools” favored by spammers and blog scraping sploggers.

Um, forigve the ignorance, but what is scraping and splogging? (besides a fun word to say.)

Your question above makes it clear that you do not understand what CSS editing can achieve and what it cannot be used for. Here’s a link to a CSS tutorial http://www.w3schools.com/css/ And here are the links from the wordpress.com support documentation.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/editing-css/

Please note that there is no staff support for earning CSS and very few volunteers are available to help those who are learning. That is why the CSS upgrade is not recommended to those who have no CSS editing experience.

    Nevermind, I figured it out.

What I wanted was to create a recent news page that had recent posts from my own site, but organized by category. Each of those boxes (in my example) would have 2-3 posts from a different category.

I’m guessing that’s just not possible without getting into the PHP. Anyone have a thought?

I do not know if this will suit you or not. The iNove theme allows for categories in the top navigation. Also with some of the other themes here, you can use a trick to put links to categories in the top navigation tabs http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/page-tabs-as-external-links/ . This trick does not work in all themes here. The themes it works in are in the left column of the blog post.

Scraping and splogging are: subscribing to RSS feeds, taking that content, and autoposting it to a blog or web page so you don’t have to write your own content. It’s usually done so the page can generate ad revenue, and it’s by definition done without permission to repost.

You could (as you’ve concluded) do it in a widget by having a different widget for each category feed, but I don’t think that you could do it in the body of the post. There IS a workaround that can under certain circumstances get RSS content into the body of a WP.com page, but I don’t think it can be adapted to use more than one feed per page, and I’m not sure I really want to promote it in case of those said scrapers getting ahold of it.

I did a roundup post yesterday by hand, http://raincoaster.com/2009/12/01/what-did-you-do-today-raincoaster-5/ and I have to say it’s one of my more popular posts over the last 24 hours. You might find it worth the time to do it by hand and/or updated by hand.

Where are you adding it and what feed are you trying to add? We need the exact URLs, starting with http.

I’m not sure if anyone here would be interested (and I don’t want to make it come across as lamo-advertising) I just did a total theme-remake of my blog and would appreciate some non-content, purely layout-centered comments. It takes great advantage of the RSS feed widget using one of the two-sidebar theme.

My blog has two basic kinds of content “Book Summaries and Reviews”, and “Opinion/Current news”.

The left sidebar navigates Summaries and Reviews with some text HTML for navigation, advertisement/explanation of the content, plus an RSS feed of those Book Reviews.

The right side has the opinion stuff. The top is category (most of which are opinion posts) followed by 1 RSS feed with content of 3 most recent opinion posts, Then there are three more RSS feeds without content (just titles of posts) for three subcategories. Below that is the simple “top posts” widget. I chose not to use a recent posts widget cuz I figured most would already be present through the RSS feeds. Then at the bottom I put the recent comments widget.

The one problem that occured to me is that I’ve selected more than 1 category for some posts and that makes some posts show up more than once. Is that a problem? In the future I could make a “Featured Content” category and that could be the top Widget.

Overall, I want the blog to have a definite “news-magazine” feel to it with as many links to internal content as possible, so where ever you are and whatever post you’re reading, even if you’re down towards the bottom of the post, if you look left or right, you see a neat *something* to click on.
