Adding music to a post
-
hello … I want to add a song from my computer to a WP post … how can I do it ? If I try to select ‘Add Music’ from the menu it says that I can upload just .jpg, .png, .pdf etc., but not .mp3 or .mp4 … I hope I’ll get an answer soon, thanks

I thought that maybe sadak had clicked on the wrong icon, but when one clicks on the musical note, it does say this:
Allowed file types: jpg, jpeg, png, gif, pdf, doc, ppt, odt.

I’d suggest you to contact support because they are the only ones who can change the filter (file type).
Another option would be for you to host your .mp3 files elsewhere. If you take this option, make sure the provider allows hotlinking, otherwise the file won’t open and you might see an endless “buffering” message.

Devblog, I do think support needs to be contacted. But the issue is that when one clicks on the icon for uploading music, it takes one to the screen for uploading pictures. :)

I’m sure diamond didn’t mean anything by that. It was just a test. I did the same thing to make sure you weren’t clicking the wrong button. Some times that happens.

to add this for exemple, I think I need to have a paid WP blog, and I don’t want that just because of a song … I hope the issue can be solved -

No, you can modify the CSS of a them or create your own from scratch, but that’s it. No one has access to the .php files here.
BTW, I noticed that clickin’ the “Add Media” button, it also loads the same filters (jpg, jpeg, png, gif, pdf, doc, ppt, odt.)…
Coping and pasting the forms much?

I know it’s the same, it’s maybe because of this change in the dashboard … but I’m not very glad about it … now, where I can modify my CSS files?

@sadak: To upload mp3s in a wp.com blog, you must have the paid space upgrade – but you don’t need that. As devblog says, you can upload the mp3 in an independent hosting site that provides DIRECT links (e.g. Fileden or Getdropbox), get the URL from there and paste it in your post with the shortcode for the wp audio player:
[audio URL_HERE]
Note that the wp player only plays mp3s.
-
@ panag – why does it only show formats for images when one clicks on the musical note? Is that an error or would it only show file options once one gets the upgrade?
-
To upload mp3s in a wp.com blog, you must have the paid space upgrade
If that is so, then the current interface is misleading (for the lack of a better word). Instead of having the “Upload” button, wordpress should display a message that should read “If you want to upload .mp3 or video files, you must upgrade” or something like that.
If the user has to pay for that feature, they should disable the upload fields instead of having them and showing extension files other than .mp3 or .mov, for instance.

That’s my point, devblog; which is why I think that staff needs to look at this, and why I put the modlook in tags!
-
@diamondfistwerny & devblog: Apparently the uploader lists the file types you can upload in a no-upgrades blog. There IS a message underneath: “You can upload additional file types and increase your available space with a Space Upgrade.”
-
Thanks Panag. I still think staff should look at it. It’s not clear and kinda misleading. Will lead to people coming to the forums asking questions, don’t ya think?
-
yes, I see the message, but still think that the upload option should be disabled for those. Otherwise, people would tend to ignore that and still think they’re able to upload other the aforementioned type of files. Also, it would be idea to make the notice to stand a bit more otherwise it would be ignored.
