Adding music to my blog?
-
I have read the Music section in the FAQs and also all of the questions related to it in the forum…but I’m embarrassed to say that I still do not really understand what I need to do to get music onto my blog. Could someone please explain, in basic step-by-step terms, how I can get music to play on my blog? Thanks!

I’m with you. I’ve read every post and still can’t figure it out. I’m glad I’m not the only one.

Could you explain what exactly are you trying to do and is not working?
Also, are you hosted here?

I’m having trouble getting the correct format first of all. I’ve been told it has to be mp3 to play but everything I have on itunes or have downloaded looks like it’s an mp4 or something else. I tried uploading something and then placing the [] around it and that didn’t work. The closest I’ve gotten is a song opening up in it’s own window which isn’t what I want. I would like to be able to give the option to either have a song in an individual post or even just be able to have a song on my home page. Any tips would be helpful…

1. Upload the music file (must be MP3 and must have the .mp3 file extension) to a file sharing service (if you don’t have the space upgrade here). Box.net and fileden are good places to upload music files.
2. Get the URL for the audio file you uploaded to the file sharing service.
3. In the visual post or page editor, click on the “add music” icon at the right top of the editor area (looks like a musical note).
4. In the audio file URL field type or paste the URL of the music file on the file sharing service.
5. Add a title (this is required).
6. Click “insert into post.

I do have the space upgrade… how do you get an mp3? Why would all of my music files be mp4?

In iTunes, you can convert files from mp4 to mp3 and keep a copy of the original. Go to the iTunes help and type in either “convert” or “saving a copy of a song in a new file format”. It explains how to do it.

@celticrock
You can convert them, you don’t have to buy a new copy of what you already have.

I followed your instructions above using box.net. I have uploaded a file onto box.net, but how do I get the URL for the file? I do not see anything that looks like the example from the music FAQ. Thanks. -
You need to go into your box.net account and find the file. There you should be able to get the URL for it.
