adding my domain name to a wordpress.com blog
-
Hi, I’ve had my own website for a few years with a domain name I purchased and a web host. I created a wordpress.com blog and want to use my website domain name for my blog content only, so I purchased the domain mapping upgrade. Can I now cancel with my host or do I still need a third party host?
Thanks.

If you are happy with WordPress.com free hosting your content then you do not need to pay for a web host.

Let me add that if you purchased the domain name elsewhere that’s where you will have to renew the domain name every year. (No hosting required.)You will also have to pay WordPress.com every year to continue to domain map to the domain name. (Web hosting here is free of charge.)

Got it. For me, the $10/yr domain name cost plus the $13/yr WordPress charge is worth it to not have the $75/yr third-party host charge.
I appreciate the detailed response.

I felt the same way when I chose to move my self hosted blog back to WordPress.com too. :)
