Adding my own domain name

I have purchased my own domain name. I currently have a free wordpress site with .wordpress.com ….so I would now like to change my site address to the new one, keeping all else the same. Is it correct that I can simply pay $17 (AUS) per year to do this? I originally thought I would need to upgrade to a premium account, but not sure I need the premium features.

According to staff since you have an older WordPress.com account, you may be able to simply pay for the domain mapping. Newer accounts don’t have that option and need to use the Premium plan.

How do I know if I have an older account? I do have the option there to add my own domain and then the next screen asks me to make payment of $17 (AUS) by credit card. I don’t really need the premium account and would be happy to pay just the $17 each year instead.
I’m wondering if anyone has a free account with their own domain? -
Hi there,
This account, kbyoga, was created 5 years ago, so at this stage you should be able to still buy the domain on its own if you buy it with this account. But going forward this might change.
If you have another account that you created more recently you might not be able to buy a domain without Premium with that account.

Thanks! I actually went ahead and linked my domain (I purchased it elsewhere as it’s a .com.au domain) today! So far so good. I appreciate the assistance, thanks guys.
