Adding MyBlogLog to blog?
-
I would like to add the MyBlogLog sidebar feature to my blog. Can I do this if I don’t pay to have access to the CSS? I don’t know if I could do it through a text or meta widget (I don’t even know what a meta widget is used for)… I’d need to be able to place javascript in the widget if so. Thanks!

Javascripts are not allowed and are removed from all user input due to sercurity concerns. If they were allowed, it would put everybody’s blogs at risk.
Meta widget lists your admin links for signing in and your RSS links.
Hope this helps,

@drmike
Perhaps this will change soon.
engtech blogged:
I haven’t found an official announcement for it, but MyBlogLog has come up with a non-javascript widget (probably the same method they use for MySpace) to add support for WordPress.com users. They give you CSS (you will need the CSS upgrade to use) and HTML code to put into a sidebar text widget.” http://engtech.wordpress.com/2007/01/15/mybloglog-widget-for-wordpresscom-blogs-one-of-the-best-web-widgets-available/ -
If it’s non-javascript, and in a sidebar widget, why do we need the CSS upgrade to use it? I reeeeeeeeeally want it, but I’ze po’. And gawd knows what I’d do with CSS: about what I’d do with a Lamborghini, since I don’t drive.
-
You don’t need the CSS Upgrade to use it, they just include CSS if you want to make it look better.
I’m going to update that post since quite a few people think CSS is needed the first time they read it.
-
Looks like I wrote that to say the CSS upgrade was required when it wasn’t… whoops. The post is fixed.

I am trying my best, but it’s looking pretty much like a non-starter, for whatever reason. Shall keep hacking away. It SHOULD work, dammit!

Right now I’ve got a lovely widget filled with red X marks. Please tell me what I’m doing wrong! Me wants this bad!
-
It’s putting the URL of the image into double quotes. Since the URl doesn’t start with the http:// bit, it starts with a double quote, it’s putting your blog URL in front of it, thereby breaking it.
Example:

Engtech emailed me some code that was customized with my own MBL number. I see it does need some tweaking, as it’s only showing the WordPress community members, and it doesn’t seem to be dynamic, but it is WAY prettier than a bunch of red X’s.

@rc:
It looks dynamic to me…. If I check your site I go to the top of the list.
MyBlogLog does only work with registered MyBlogLog peeps though, not with WordPress.com avatars.
-
Yes, you’re right. The problem was, nobody was checking my site! But will it show the Gawker, IainDale, etc members as well? What I mean is, will it show all MyBlogLog users who surf my site, rather than just the WordPress users?
