Adding New Page – Rewrites First Page
-
HI, when I add a new page, enter new content, and push ‘preview,’ I find that the content of the new draft page is pasted onto my first page – the new page hasn’t been created at all, and the first page has been re-written. Never had any trouble with wordpress before. What am I doing wrong? Many thanks!

I have never heard of that happening before. Do not delete any drafts you created that illustrate this. I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Also subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting. Hi there,
The only change that has been made to your front page in the past month is the “Many thanks to…” paragraph you added two days ago. There is no evidence of content from any other page appearing on the front page.
I do see 6 deleted pages from two days ago in your site’s dashboard. Are they the not-created pages you’re referring to?

It could be that you deleted them by accident.

Thanks to everyone who is trying to help. Those pages in the trash are there because, after I went to WP Administration, created a new page, added a title and content, and then hit preview page — the content did not appear on a new page, but on my first page – overwriting what I already had there. I didn’t want to do that, so I did not publish the page and put the “new page” in the trash. I tried to create a new page several times, with the same result. I even logged out and logged in again. Same result.

How do you know it’s replacing the content of the home page? Did you open the front page in the editor and see the content changed there? The Preview button should only show you a preview of how the page will look once it’s published. The preview button is not linked to anything that can change the content of an already published post or page.
Can you please try creating another new page and take a screen shot of the preview for me? Make sure the screen shot includes your browser’s address bar as well, and don’t delete the draft page. You can upload the screen shot directly to your media library, and I’ll be able to see it there.

Hi,
I added another new page – this time with only one photo on it. I took a screen shot of it and put it in the media library. I then opened my first page, and there is the title/photo on it – and my original text on the first page has been removed. I took a screen shot of it, too, and put it in the media library (the altered first page is the first you will see, and the new “added” page is the second.
After reading your last post, I’m tempted to just publish the new page and see what happens – as long as it doesn’t destroy my first page.
Thanks for all of your help!

I should add that after I added the new page and put content in it, I hit preview – and preview is what took me to the first page, with the new content on it. Sorry I didn’t make that clear earlier.

Thanks for the screen shots, and the additional description.
What you’re seeing in the preview is not the front page, it’s the page you’re working on. Look at the page title. Your front page is titled The Front Page, not Visit to a BUGS Classroom, November 2016
If in that preview you were to click the Home link in your menu you would be taken to the front page.
It shows the front page URL in the browser address bar, because that’s how Safari works – Safari shows only the main URL, not all the stuff that comes after the /. But if you click on the URL in the address bar it should show you the additional information for the preview link.
It is safe to publish that page. All that will do is create a new page on your site. It won’t make changes to the front page.
