Adding Opt In on my blog .
-
No kidding … how do you put an opt in element into the side bar on my blog in wordpress.com? If we can’t do it on wordpress.com where I can put an opt in element? In wordpress.org? If that is the case how can I easily switch my account to wordpress.org? If I can’t do it in wordpress.org or it is too difficult to change accounts how do I go to a different blogging entity and get out of using wordpress? What ones would you recomeend?
This is crazy.

If you wish to have other subscribe to your blog then why not use this?

There’s also a contact form that you can place on a static page. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/
And there’s nothing preventing you from creating your own static About page and including contact information on it, or doing the same in a text widget and placing it in your sidebar.

There is another alternative as well. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/rss-links-widget/

You can also use all of these on a wordpress.com blog. > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/04/08/social-bookmarks-for-wordpress-com-blogs/
There is a Publicize widgt you can use to have your blog links & snippets pushed out to update Twitter, Facebook and Yahoo pipes and 5 other alternatives for accomplishing that too.

If you want an actual opt-in form that is configurable, you will have to host it somewhere other than WP.com. Many people use Google docs etc for this purpose. Just link to it in a text widget in the sidebar.
WordPress.COM has been designed for people who just want to use it to blog: they do not want to use it as a full-fledged CMS or ecommerce platform.
You can of course put configurable opt in forms into any WordPress.org blog, but if you don’t even know how to move to WP.org, you may want to wait and build up your technical knowledge first, because there’s no support really; you’re on your own with installs, updates, security, the whole shebang.
There are instructions on how to move a WP.com blog to WP.org in the forums, in the support documents, and at TT’s blog, http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com

There is no such thing as “switching and account to wordpress.ORG”. The two are entirely separate. You can hire a web host at any time you wish. You can then get a free software install from wordpress.org, free theme, and plugins and upload them via FTP. The last step is to export the contents out of your wordpress.com blog here and then to import that file into your new web hosted wordpress.org install.
