Adding Other Media – ReverbNation.com

  • Unknown's avatar

I read the faq on this here:

Can I add flash? video? Embed other media?

But I have a question. Are you guys open to adding to this list if it’s a known entity? In particular, I’d very much like to display my ReverbNation widgets to my blog. I’d also like to do blogs about other musician’s ReverbNation pages. And putting THEIR widgets in my posts would also be really nice.

To see what this looks like, here is my ReverbNation page:

and here is the embedded widget in MySpace:

That would be a great help.

    Thanks,

    Michael

Does anyone have any thoughts on this at all?

Volunteers in the forum can’t make calls like that, we can only tell you to submit it to staff as a suggestion on Monday when Support reopens. In the meantime, try using the Vodpod Widget and Button to put things in your blog. It’s a workaround that seems to apply to virtually anything.

I apologize. I’m kind of new around here. I thought the Support forum was how you submit it to the staff. Is there an email address or something? I’ll search for more info on the VodPod widget.

    Thanks,

    Michael

Ok, I went to the vodpod site and it appears to be for video only? I’m trying to embed a flash player that will play music, scroll through show dates, photos and recommend other artists. It’s developed at ReverbNation. The cool thing is that they have a new widget specifically designed for blog side bars that I want to use.

It boils down to this. I dumped Blogger for WordPress because I heard great things about this blogging tool. And so far, yeah, it’s pretty cool. But I’m trying to promote my music and my podcasts. ReverbNation does this better than anybody. And I get PAID for using their widgets. Imagine that. Anyways, this is a deal killer for me. I need a timeline for when this will be added or I’ll be forced to dump WordPress.

Ahh, I see the Support link. I’ll give that a try on Monday. Thanks.

It’s 8:45 PST and no sign of Support.

Ok, I was finally able to submit this issue to Support. I’m hoping for the best. Blogger is such a clunky tool. But at least you know Google will continue to improve the product. I’ll head over there in a heartbeat if this isn’t possible here. My entire reason for blogging is to drive traffic to my ReverbNation page. They’ve enabled other media types. All it should take is getting the ObjID from the Flash app and setting it up as an approved type.

Ok, I’m leaving. Here are the details:

    Moving Blog to Blogger

“This is a really nice product. But apparently they haven’t solved the technical issue of allowing Flash widgets on their pages without exposing themselves to security issues. Google’s Blogger seems to handle this just fine.”

  • Unknown's avatar

Sounds like this is the exact issue I am having. I understand them not wanting to allow other players, for fear of malicious code, but how does blogger do it?

    Time will tell, I guess.

  • Unknown's avatar

Since he’s left, he can’t answer but I can: it’s a security issue here. Our blog share more of their innards than blogs at Blogger do. If someone at Blogger adds a javascript thing that causes a security hole or allows malware to be shunted through his blog and onto his readers’ computers, it’s his problem. If WP.com allowed the same javascript thing, it would become a problem for everyone using that same theme. That’s too big a risk.

Have you heard anything back about loading ReverbNation flash widgets? I would really like to use my widget and post others and cannot either. This would be really nice to do! When I try and put it into a widget all that appears is the bottom of the Reverb Nation widget….

People, as long as your name links to your blog, there is no need to leave it in your signature. It’s not what we do around here.

There is no new information about the Reverb Nation widget at this time. You can always check the FAQ for updates.
