adding page numbers to a blog without pluggins

  my blog is hosted on wordpress. I have two questions.

  1. can i add any pluggins if its hosted on wordpress?

  2. Is there a way to add page numbers at the bottom of my wordpress blog instead of previous and next, and please don’t tell me pluggins if the answer to my frist question is no.

  Blogs here at WP.com do not have plugins. And as far as I’m aware, even with the CSS upgrade there’s no way to add page numbers to the blog, although a CSS expert might correct me on that.
