Adding Page Parents – how?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am using the Garfield Theme. I want to use ‘Pages’ and use the parent hierarchy that has is available, so that they don’t all show up in my header. However, as simple as the instructions are on how to do that, there doesn’t appear to be any place where you can add or create ‘Parent’ items. If I go to Manage > Pages, all I get are a list of pages. No place to add a Page Parent, like you can do with Categories, or Links.

    Any suggestions?

the page parent/children setting is at the editor of the page itself. by default all pages are parents, it’s only the child page that needs setting.

    Sulz,

I don’t really get you. Care to explain? :)

Where to get to this ‘editor’?

    Scope.

When you Write > Page or go back to edit a page (under Manage > Pages), scroll down under the editor and you’ll see Page Parent under Advanced Options.

[Resolved] As I understand it, you cannot just make an empty container for a parent with pages. You have to make an actual page, which will have to contain some kind of content, to which you can attach other pages as the children. In other words, there is no way to make a labeled ‘folder’ per se, that contains the articles as the children (documents).

I resolved my issue by making my parent page an index page to which I can attach my articles or other pages to. Not my ideal solution, but it serves.

As a thought for the developer, why is the ‘category’ function not transported to ‘pages’? If you can make empty parent category tags for posts with the ability to add children, why can you not do it for pages? I don’t need an answer for it, just a thought for developer consideration.

I still don’t get it. There’s nothing about page parents under Advanced Options on the page editing page. What should I do? I guess make page private and then link to it from another page?

    Thanks

No, making page private doesn’t help. Can someone help?
