Adding payment options
-
Hi,
I have a neighbour who would like some help adding a payment option to her site. She paints artwork and is looking to sell it on her WordPress.com site. Is that easy to do as I would like to do this for her.
I wondered whether there were any transaction fees, etc as I can’t find those on WordPress.com at the moment.
Thanks in dvance,
Andrew -
Hi Andrew,
What’s the site URL?
If you’re looking at adding payment options to posts and pages, you could use the Simple Payments block which will enable you to take payment through PayPal. You can read more about it by visiting the link below:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/simple-payments-block/
You could also look into creating a WP.com store, there’s an eligibility requirement for this one, please see the link below:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/store/
Lastly, you could consider building a store with a WooCommerce plugin, you’d need a Business or eCommerce plan for this:

Hi Grace,
Many thanks for your post. The url is http://tiny.cc/pxwgdz. I have still to find out exactly what and how she wants things sold on the site for example whether she just wants to take fees, sell individual pieces of artwork or other items.I tried to find transaction fees when using WordPress.com but couldn’t find the info either.
Thanks for your advice. -
Thanks for the reply, Andrew.
Because the site in question is not hosted at WordPress.com, you can consider my earlier suggestions about Simple Payments and WP.com store obsolete,:) those payment solutions are for WordPress.com managed sites.
Your neighbor’s site is self-hosted or built using the open-source WordPress.org software. You’d want to seek assistance from the forums that specialize in those sites, you can find them at this link:
https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites. The difference between the two is explained here:
Another useful forum you could visit is the WooCommerce forum, and you can find it here:

Thanks for the info Grace. I haven’t asked her where she hosts the site but assumed just because it had the link in the footer. How did you find out it isn’t hosted here, out of curiosity?
I think it’ll be a WPForms/PayPal combination or something. I will consult those links you posted.
Many thanks. -
Hi Andrew,
Sorry for the back and forth. I’ve had a closer look, her URL is https://rosiemarkartwork.co.uk/ and it’s hosted here at WordPress.com, so, you are in the correct forum and in fact, if she logs into her account or if with her permission you log into her account, she’ll have access to priority Live Chat support.
In my previous answer, I didn’t realize fast enough that http://tiny.cc/pxwgdz is a Tiny URL, and that’s the URL I search in Whois.com to determine the hosting provider.
Since we’ve now established that her site is hosted by WordPress.com, there are several payment options to pick from that she can add to her account to start collecting payments. As outlined in my first response, you could add Simple Payments Block, WP.com Store or WooCommerce (if she has a Business plan or higher).
How did you find out it isn’t hosted here, out of curiosity?
To identify domain host, go to whois.com, enter the domain in the search field and click whois. Then look for the name servers section, the information there tells the name of the hosting provider the name servers are pointed to, for example, https://rosiemarkartwork.co.uk/, name servers are pointing to WordPress.com.
Since https://rosiemarkartwork.co.uk/ is an upgraded WordPress.com site, I have this thread for staff attention.

Hi there,
We do not take out fees on a WordPress.com site where a user is selling products. The only fees that the user would incur would be whatever Payment Gateway your neighbor decides to use to process their client’s payments. So, for example, if you decide to go with PayPal, their processing fees are the only fee you need to worry about. Hope that helps.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,

Many thanks Damelldibbles and Grace.
My neighbour is away for the weekend but we shall try to meet up on Tuesday of the coming week. All very useful information to share with my neighbour.
