adding photos that can’t be copied
-
Is it possible to upload a photograph that’s on my computer into a widget and making it so nobody can copy it? I know I can use a watermark but I prefer to make it so nobody can even copy it. I want to say I think flickr has this option. THANKS.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The answer is “no”. If you post an image on your blog there are ways to copy it. Watermarking is the best option. There are no other options at wordpress.com and if you have heard that disabling right clicking will prevent it that simply not true.

timethief is correct. There is no such thing as a photograph that can’t be copied. Flickr images are easily copied.

There IS another layer of protection you can use, but it means you can only post one large image per post; the rest will have to be in a Gallery. That is: Use the Monotone theme. When people attempt to click on it, they only get the next page.
That’s as good as the Flickr protection, because the means to get around it (there is one) is the same for a WP.com blog using Monotone AND Flickr. And of course I’m not going to say what that is, just that they provide the same level of security.

Ah, I see you were inquiring about a photo in a widget; in that case, no, there’s no way. The Monotone theme does not allow widgets.

You can also use this trick that devblog offered on his blog: http://csswiz.wordpress.com/2009/08/16/cover-your-images/ .

Thanks, everybody
I went on the site for watermarks (informative site) and it says:
“…JPEG or GIF pictures must be hosted somewhere …”
If I place a photo from my computer on my blog here, will that be considered as being hosted here?
-
…keep your photos at a relatively low dpi, so people can’t blow them up to a decent size. 300dpi is photo quality, 72dpi is pretty much the Internet standard, but you can get away with 40-60dpi and still have a decent looking online photo. And a watermark is always the way to go, especially something with a copyright symbol.

Yes, if you take pix from your computer and upload them to your blog here, that’s considered “being hosted” here.

I’m working on the watermark and wondering if it’s going to be a permanent thing on my photo. I want it on the web, not on my computer. Pardon the doofus question.

Always keep a pristine original. Make a copy and watermark it and post the watermarked one on your blog.
