Adding Plugins
-
Hi,
I’m sorry if this has been asked before, but I haven’t been able to find a specific answer for my problem.
I have purchased hosting through WordPress (so don’t exactly know where the hosting is based!).
I want to add some html to a page on my site, (a html code for a mailing list signup form), and as best I can see, I need to use a plugin to make the html code work as intended (I’m open to correction on this, if there’s an easier way to make the html work, please let me know!)
So, where and how do I install a plugin? I don’t have the ‘Add Plugin’ option on my dashboard, and I also do not have any WordPress folder on my computer. I assume it needs to go into a folder on the server where I am hosted (again, this was purchased directly through wordpress), but I don’t have the first idea of how to go about doing this!
Thanks for any and all help,
DH

There is no FTP access to our free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we bloggers cannot install plugins.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/You do not have a WordPress.org install. Please read this careful for clarity http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/>
If you require plugins then you have to hire a web host, set up your self hosted WordPress.org install and move your content into it.

Hey,
many thanks for your reply, and the links.
I’m afraid I’m a little (very) braindead when it comes to this stuff!
I purchased a domain through WordPress (the $26). From what you’ve said, am I right in assuming I’m still classified as being ‘free hosted’?
Finally, it seems I can get the sign up button and form to work within a widget. Is there any way I can make the widget the primary (and only) feature of a Page, rather than having it tucked away in a sidebar or footer?
Many thanks for your assistance!

Widgets can only be used in sidebar and footer areas for widgets, They cannot be embedded into Pages or Posts.
