ADDING PLUGINS ON WORDPRESS:COM
-
Good morning,
I am new to wordpress and now starting to set up a blog. I have tried to add plugins, but with no success. In fact, on the plugin section I cannot modify anything.. while I looked for support, they explained me the difference between wordpress.org and .com.
As I am on wordpress.com, is there anyway i can add plugins? Do I have no marge of personalization? For example, I would like to personalize my 404 page, for which i would need a file manager. In case there is really no space for customization, is it possible to be transferred to wordpress.org?
Thank you for your assistance,
Wish you a good day.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Everything you said is correct. We cannot add more plugins to the ones already included in the WordPressdotcom platform. https://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/
We aren’t able to access the underlying HTML or PHP to edit the 404 page directly, but you could add a text widget to your site’s sidebar and change the visibility settings to only show it on the 404 page. Let me know if that is something you’d like to do.
However, other than that we can customize our sites quite a bit. What is it that you want to do?
If you want to move to the standalone WordPress software, you’ll first need to find hosting and then go from there. Maybe you’d like to read this Support doc which explains the differences between WordPressdotcom (where we are) and the standalone WP software so you can make an informed decision on what is best for your needs: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Let us know if you need more info.

Thanks a lot for the information. It has been useful.
As I am just starting, I will stick to the current plan, than eventually upgrade somehow.
I am interested in having more information on installing the widget and
the visibility settings you mentioned.Thank You

You’re welcome. Here’s more information on adding widgets via the Customizer and changing their visibility settings: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/
The widget visibility settings allow you to set a specific widget or set of widgets to appear only on certain pages. If you want to customize a widget for your 404 page, open your site’s Customizer and grab a widget and position it where you want it to appear on your 404 page. Add your text or image or form to the widget and at the bottom of the widget click on visibility settings. There you can define the widget to Show when the Page is a 404 Page. Here’s an example on my site: https://wpcommaven.wordpress.com/whoops/ The text in the 404 page itself cannot be changed and may be somewhat different depending on what theme you are using. The text widget at the top of my sidebar is what I added.
Looking at your site, unless you have your heart set on using Intergalactic, which does not display a fixed sidebar, you’ll want to look at changing themes to one that does.

Thank you Jennifer,
Another question, a fixed sidebar will serve exactly for what? I am just learning now and need many details.. -
Hello again, A fixed sidebar is always visible and would display on each blog post and possibly on pages as well, depending on page template used.
If you want to try my above suggestion about having a text widget that appears only on the 404 page, that widget is best placed in the sidebar. If your theme only has a footer widget area or a collapsible sidebar, like Intergalactic, your users may not see that widget.
Hope that is clearer. :)
