Adding Posts to Categories

Hello everyone!,
I recently started a site and was working on putting posts in to categories that I’ve created. I’ve read and watched videos about how this is done and it seems very simple as most sites state ‘go to your post and select edit and then go to the right side to add your post to a category’
Well when I go to my post it just has a very simple layout with what I have written and nothing on the right side of the screen like I’ve seen in videos. Do I need to activate my site for this to become an option? I’m confused.

It looks like you have a self hosted website! For self hosted websites, the support forum for this is WordPress.org not WordPress.com

Hey there @ncarrolne, as @nelsonortiz17 mentioned, it looks like your site at thejoyofjourney.com is using the WordPress software and is not hosted here on WordPressdotcom.
These forums provide support for sites hosted here on our WordPressdotcom platform, but you can find all the relevant support documentation and the forums for your WordPress site at https://wordpress.org/support where they have more experience with your software.

I know I signed up and have hosting through Bluehost but does that still mean that it’s self-hosted?

Hello again, it could probably be better named, but if your WordPress site is hosted by Bluehost, that’s what we here on WordPressdotcom call a self-hosted WordPress site. Support for WordPress sites is at https://wordpress.org/support
