Adding posts to pages in Triton Lite
-
I found a great tutorial describing how to do this, but since I am using Triton Lite I cannot customize much without paying for an upgrade. Is there any way I can do this without having to upgrade? I am merely blogging without paying for anything just yet.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That tutorial is relevant only to those who have WordPress.org installs. You have a free hosted WordPress.com blog and it does not apply to your blog.
http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/Also note what follows is not theme dependent. Pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ are static and are for content that rarely changes. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/ in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page.
The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the categories into the custom menu.

thanks, although it does not exactly address my question. I merely want to create pages that display my different categories like the tutorial shows but as I am aware that my blog is different, I was wondering if there is a way I can create the same sort of thing for mine. For example, I want to have a page labeled “fashion” that displays my posts that are categorized as fashion. That static front page is not a problem.

Let me run that by you again. There is no way to add posts to static pages that bloggers have created.
I have already told you how to create a custom menu and to add the dynamic cateories pages create by the software to it. So what you need to do now is go here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

Thanks. I’ll try this again although it wasn’t working the way I wanted for this theme the first time I did this.

Creating a custom menu of Triton Lite is no differnet than creating one on another theme. Please visit that post I have linked to as it clears up all the misconceptions bloggers have about custom menus. What’s key is comprehending that the static pages you create are different from the dynamic pages like the main page for posts, categories, pages, tags pages, archives pages, etc, which are created by the software and are automatically updated by the sotware when we publish posts.
-
Okay, I figured out why this hasn’t been working for me. My theme only supports one menu. Thanks anyway.
-
You only have 1 page an “About” page in your menu. Are you clear on the fact that the whole bar is the “menu” and that the tabs in it are “menu items”? Please click my username and check out my custom menu as viewing the real thing is worth thousands of words.
-
I am absolutely clear. In the Theme Locations module, it clearly states, “Your theme supports 1 menu. Select which menu you would like to use.”
-
That’s what mine says too but it does not mean I can only have 1 menu item. As you see on my blog I have several and others are in dropdowns below the items on the menu bar.
Troubleshooting – My menu isn’t appearing
Go to the custom menu page in the dashboard Apearance > Menus and in the “theme location” module at upper left select your custom menu from the pulldown and then click “save”. -
I did that, but now the about page is gone, and there are no other menus at the top. I want more than one, not just fashion. I want my about there and art and others.

I have clearly undertsood you from the beginning. The comprehension problem is on your end of things. Here’s my last shot at explaining this.
Suppose I have a blog that I want custom menu tabs on for all my categories. Suppose the categories I assign to my posts are: Fashion, Fitess, Food, Fun and Family. Every one of those is an individual custom menu item. Collectively they all comprise a custom menu.
-
-
Thanks so much for your appreciation for the time I spent attempting to explain to you that you can have as many items as you wish in your one custom menu.
-
You explained the items after I had resolved the issue. I genuinely thank you anyway. Whether you accept my thanks is not my problem. I’m sure this will help other beginners that are having the same problems as me though!
