Adding Posts Under Menus

Hey everyone! How can I add a post under a menu topic? For example, if I have several projects that I want under the ‘Crafts’ menu, how do I do that without them actually being on the menu bar (but as a pull down)? I hope you understand my question. Thanks in advance!

    Hi

You can do this by following the steps on the link below:

Hi there, you’ll also want to learn a bit about using Categories and Tags to help you index your site content.

    Organize Posts with Categories

    Organize Posts with Tags

Adding categories and tags to your Posts (only posts can have categories and tags) will then give you Category and Tag Pages which can then be added to your Custom Menu. These special pages are dynamic and will update themselves each time you add a category or tag to your blog posts.

The pages you’ve already added like “Macrame” etc., are static pages but won’t display your blog posts. Only Category and Tag pages will do that.

Let us know if you have any other question about this after reading those guides.

Thank you very much! What really helped was seeing you could add a post as a dropdown which is what I wanted. Thanks for your help!

Glad the info that @jraborar provided assisted you. You may want to consider in the long run the more individual posts you add to that Custom Menu, the longer that drop-down menu will get for your site visitors. Also, anyone clicking on the top menu for craftscatsandchrist.home.blog/blog/macrame/ currently ends up on an empty static page.

Here’s an example of a tag page that you can add to your menu in place of individual posts

    Just something to think about.

How can I create a tag page like the example you gave? I like how it looks.

Hello again, you can add the category or tag to your Custom menu.

I would recommend reading the above support guides on Categories and Tags if you haven’t had a chance yet. You’ll see that in the Categories support guide there is a description on how to adding Categories to your Custom menu. In principle you can add Tags to the Custom menu using the same method for Categories.

Categories give a broad outline to the content of your post (like Macrame) and Tags go into more detail (like hoops, macrame dye, wall hangings, etc.) but you should not have the same word as both a Category and as a Tag.

    Hope that helps.
