Adding Recipes and Pinning to Pinterest (mainly)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

My question is regarding Pinterest. As when you pin a recipe, many websites pin (when enlarged at Pinterest) also shows a short list of ingredients… is there something I’m missing, or does wordpress not have that ability / shortcode etc…

I’m quite ok using the shortcodes and all the rest as I followed the example in the support section on it.

Thanks, I’ve been creating them in ‘Portfolios’ if you want to check what they look like first..?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

If you’ll add the content to the Excerpt field of your projects, that’s the best way to control what Pinterest will put in the caption of the pin.

Note that in some themes, this will also affect how the post gets displayed on your site, but that’s less of worry for portfolio projects.

    Hi Alex,

I tried your idea, but it didn’t work. I’m referring to pins such as this.. apologies for not providing the link / example before.

I googled it and found the information at pinterest for developers; so I’ll add what I found for people in the future (but perhaps only premium / domain types)…

It seems that it’s just a ‘url that you’d add into the shortcodes of each recipe? Although it may be otherwise… How to make a Recipe Rich Pin

How to apply for Rich Pins:

Decide what types of Rich Pin ( product, recipe, movie, article or place ) you want to apply for your website.

Learn more about the required meta tags for each type of Rich Pin you want for your website(see below).

Add the appropriate Rich Pin meta tags to product, recipe, article, movie, or place pages on your site.

Apply for Rich Pins with a single URL that contains the correct meta tags in the Rich Pin validator.

After applying with one URL, you will receive an email confirming that your site has been enabled for Rich Pins.

After your site has been enabled for Rich Pins, all Pins that link back to pages with the correct meta tags will start appearing as Rich Pins. It may take up to a week for your Pins to become Rich.

Thanks for your help on this Alex,

But do let me know with the link information, if it’s ‘do able’ via the ‘text’ section upon editing. I do have Custom Design also.. so it may be ok via the css?

    Thanks,

    Sasha

    Hi Sasha,

Ah, the Rich Pins thanks for clearing that up. We’ve had a few requests for that and it’s in our developers list of projects, but I don’t have an estimate of when we’ll have it ready on WordPress.com.

I’ve marked this thread to notify you when it is available though.

    Hi Alex,

Thanks, so you’re saying I can’t do it via my css or shortcodes..? It’s described at the link I gave above.

While wordpress.com may be trying to do it themselves (for non upgraded etc..) it still might be something I can do since I have the css…?

    Thanks,
    Sasha

    Hi Sasha,

Correctly implementing Rich Pins with WordPress.com will require a change in how we create the meta properties for sites currently.

The meta tags required aren’t something you’ll be able to implement using CSS or manually entering on your posts.
