adding RSS email feed
-
I’ve been fighting this for at least the past hour: will someone please tell me in very simple English how to insert an email sign-up RSS link to my site? Think of explaining it to your grandmother! “Burn your feed” (a quote from the official instructions) doesn’t tell me anything. I’ve created the Feedburner bit, but the instructions lead me to automatic inserts for Blogger & Typepad. I don’t need music downloads. I just want my readers to get email feeds.
Please, very simply, tell me what to do to link that to my WordPress site. Thank you very much.

Trent, thanks for your very quick reply. However, that didn’t work. I followed all the steps and now on my blog there’s a link to Feedburner showing my stats. That’s not what I’m trying to do. I simply want to add the RSS logo and allow readers to subscribe for email notifications when my blog is updated. Why does this seem to be so difficult?
Thanks again,

From the Feedburner pdf file I downloaded:
Activate the plugin by logging into your WordPress administration area, going
to Plugins, then clicking Activate at the end of the ‘FeedBurner FeedSmith’
row.
3. Begin the configuration by going to Options then clicking on the FeedBurner
submenu.I’m not finding my admin area or my plugins. Is that accessible through the dashboard?

Ok, so I discovered you can’t have plug-ins on a WP hosted blog. Does this mean it’s not possible to have the RSS bug on my site?

You’re following the wrong instructions. There are no plugins here, but this DOES work. Check the instructions here again:
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/11/how-can-i-offer-email-updates/And remember not to surf around Feedburner looking for advice on WordPress blogs; they are almost invariably talking about the OTHER kind of WordPress.

Those directions are for adding email subscriptions. That’s not what I’m trying to do. I simply want to add the little RSS logo that provides the ability for people to receive copies of my latest post in their Outlook or other email management programs. Thank you.

That is what email subscription is!
Do you maybe mean RSS? http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/put-your-feed-in-your-sidebar/

Please look at my blog: http://www.practical-tourist.com. In the sidebar you will see two lines: “enter your email address” followed by “Delivered by Feedburner.”
That’s what I got when I followed the directions in the links listed above. I am trying to simply add the RSS button that goes to a page that subscribing via google reader, or via your email, to receive blog updates in your outlook or other mail box.
This little orange button appears in countless blogs. Why is this so difficult for me to add it to mine?
