Adding shopping cart to a template

Hello, I am in the process of choosing a theme template for my website hosted by WordPress and was wondering – if I choose the Pique theme – will I be able to add a shopping card to it to sell the services that will be offered? Many thanks!

  • Hi @onecardfortheroad, sure; while some themes are specifically designed for a shopping cart, there are ways to add cart pages to any theme.

Do note though that Pique is designed to be a “one page theme.” It might work well for your needs, just know that if you put a cart on the front page, checkout would still likely need to be on other pages. But, you don’t have to use it as a single-page theme unless you want to.

Do you know which e-commerce option you’ll be using?

Hello and thanks for your reply, I would like to use the Simple Payments option, is this option available if I am based in Spain? Also, is this option available for the Pique theme? Many thanks!

Also, what is the difference between ‘store’ and ‘simple payments’ options? Many thanks.

  • Simple Payments is simply a button you add to your site, either using the Add button in the classic editor, or the Simple Payments block in the block editor. It’s used for a single payment for a single product at a time, and you’ll need to manually follow up with a buyer to get their shipping details to send a purchase to them. Most people use that button in combination with a contact form to take the actual orders.

That button uses PayPal, so if PayPal is supported in Spain and you have a valid PayPal account, you can use it.

The “Store” option is for sites on our eCommerce or Business Plan, and lets you convert your site into an online store, with multiple products, integrated checkout and shipping options, using the WooCommerce plugin. The “Store” section in My Sites is currently only available to stores based in the US and Canada, but you can still use WooCommerce via the traditional WP-Admin interface if you’re in any other country. So the restriction here is just for the specific interface, not for the online store feature itself.

With a plugin like WooCommerce you can use any payment processor you want, not just PayPal, provided they offer an integration with WooCommerce.
