Adding Specific Posts to Pages

    Hello,

So in my primary menu I have 4 pages. All of my posts seem to go to my home page. How can I put a specific post on a specific page?

    Thank you,

  • Hi there,

It seems that your home page is set up as a blog, so all your posts will appear there automatically.

To put specific posts on a specific page you need to assign each post a category. Then, using the instructions in the “Category Pages” support page, make your primary menu items link to each category. https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/

Another option to explore is the “Category Widget”: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/

Let us know if you have any additional questions as you get your site set up.

Thank you so much!!!! That really clarified some things. I also was wondering, it is possible to change my home page from a blog to just a regular page? I guess I want to see it up so the home page is just a normal page and blog posts are on the specific categories I make.

Also is it possible to set up more than one domain for one account?

Never mind I found out how to make a static home page. I’m much more excited for my blog.

But I was still wondering if I can create more than one domain for one account?

Hello there, it is possible to register more than one WordPressdotcom site under the same username account. Here’s how you can do that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account

It seems like I can’t get another domain since I’m using the free plan. so sad. Oh well thank you so much for your help though.

You’d be registering a new, free WordPressdotcom site under your current account if you follow the instructions I provided earlier. Is this not what you wanted to do?

If not, can you explain in more detail what it is you want to do? Thanks.

I got it now. Thank you so much!!

Just following this up… have followed lizswaffords advice to create the category pages, thank you, great to finally know how to do this. However, is there any way to remove ‘Category: Soups’ from the page so it is just the posts relevant to that page?

    Thank you

You’d need Custom CSS to do that – the feature is available with the Premium or Business plans.

If you really don’t want that heading, instead of using the automatically generated category page, you could try adding the Display Posts shortcode to a static page, restricting it to the specific category you want by using the appropriate attribute. With this method, there isn’t any automatically generated page heading, so you can make it whatever you want.

Oh nice solution @kathrynwp! Bookmarked! :)

The only question I would have about using the Display Posts shortcode instead of Category pages is whether search engines would treat the resulting Page as duplicate content? Thanks again.

Good question – I don’t know the answer to that, it could be a good question for an SEO specialty forum. I haven’t heard any complaints from anyone using the Display Posts shortcode over the years in terms of SEO penalties – I think search engines have gotten pretty smart in understanding that blogs display posts content in various ways throughout a site, but that they’re not doing it to spam anyone or game any systems. But IANASEOS (I am not an SEO specialist).

Hi @kathrynwp – I know that is true of the built-in WP archive pages, but wasn’t sure about pages created with the shortcode. Thanks for weighing in on my question.
