adding static pages to a blog
-
Greetings,
I am trying to add 2-3 static pages to my blog (One called ‘How to Post a Story’ with instructions for family members on how to post and another one with some other suggestions). Currently the home page is for posts, which is fine. I created the How to Post a Story page, but it does not appear in a tab on the home page, which is what I want.
I have worked with blogs in the past and understand the basic structure and options quite well, but I have not figured out how to do this here for some reason. I wonder if it’s the template I chose. Also, I don’t need a contacts page or testimonials, but deleting them does not seem to work. What are my choices under ‘Page Attributes’ when I want to add static pages? The ones I tried didn’t work for my purpose.
Overall, I love WordPress and think it’s a great platform with many fabulous options at all ‘levels’ of blogging. I did search your support forums on adding pages and I read them carefully. But I still haven’t figured out how to do it. I did not seem to have enough options to create static pages that I could title and would appear as tabs.
I’d love some help on this! Please let me know if you need more info from me.
Thank you!

I can’t see your site, as it is marked as private. From your description, though, it seems that you are trying to add 2-3 pages to your site’s main menu. Is that correct?
If so, please note that when you create new pages, they do not automatically appear on your menu.
You can add new pages to your menu by going to your Customizer (My Site -> Customize) and then clicking on Menus.
Find your main menu on the list of menus that appears, and click on it. Then, click on the Add Items button to add pages to your Menu. From there, you can drag and drop items in your menu to reorder them or to create submenus.
Hope that answers your question – let me know if you need additional information.

Greetings, Jenny Sihua!
Thank you for your reply! I tried what you suggested, but I can’t find what you suggested: neither “Customize” my site, nor “Menus.” I assume I’m looking in the wrong place, but I’m stumped. Can I send you a link to our blog (or the password) without everyone on these forums seeing that information? I’d like to continue to keep it private.
Thank you,

Hi Karen,
Here is how you can find the Customizer:
Go to WordPress.com. Click on “My Sites” on the upper left hand corner. On the left sidebar, under Personalize and next to Themes, there will be a Customize button – click on that button. Once the page loads, you will find Menus on the left sidebar.
This Support page has additional instructions on how to access the Customizer in case you cannot find it using the above.
Let me know if that helps!

Thank you for all your suggestions! They have surely helped!
For some reason, I am unable to access the “dashboard” for our blog. I have added “/wp-admin” after the URL, but when I click on it, it disappears. I’m very familiar with Dashboard in other blogging endeavors and I’m baffled as to why I cannot access it here.
My immediate goal is to edit the blogroll. Currently, by adding the Links widget, I got the default WordPress blogroll. I’d keep a few of them but I want to delete most of them. Without access to the Dashboard, I can’t do that.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Karen,
To confirm, are you trying to log in via the URL below?
https://scandanaviafamily.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
If you are using that URL and are having trouble logging in, try clearing your cookies/cache and logging back in; it could be a browser error.
If that still doesn’t work, I would recommend adding a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to get help from a staff member.
Jenny
